“One of the main challenges of the 21st century is the latest achievements and research in communications. However, it is necessary to consider the accompanying process of technological development - the threat of information dissemination.

Under the auspices of IEEE, which is the world’s trusted “Voice” for scientists working in the direction of engineering, computing, and technological information, holding an international conference on these significant and necessary topics at the Georgian Technical University of Georgia that our university is a worthy member of the IEEE family.

We would like to thank the organizers of the conference and wish them success”, said the deputy rector of the Georgian Technical University in the field of science, Professor Tamar Lominadze, at the opening event of the IEEE Black Sea International Conference – “Communications and Networks”.

The Black Sea International Scientific Conference – “Communications and Networks” (IEEE BlackSeaCom) is organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE), co-organized by the Georgian Technical University, and supported by the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of GTU.

The honorary chairman of the conference is the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, academician David Gurgenidze. The chairman of the local processes management is Zaza Buachidze, the heads of the educational processes management service of GTU, and the co-chairman of the conference operations management are the dean of the faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, professor Taliko Zhvania, and the deputy dean of the same faculty, professor Lili Petriashvili.

As the deputy rector of GTU announced, the Georgian Technical University is a partner of the international conference organized by IEEE for the second time.

“IEEE and its members inspire the global community to use science for a better tomorrow - through highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities.

The conference, with a special emphasis on the Black Sea region, will discuss such important topics as the latest achievements and research in the field of communications.

Within the framework of the conference, there are two parallel sections, where interesting researches are discussed, such as reliable UAV navigation using cellular networks: using deep learning; A THz-Based Microfluidic LSPP-Meta structure for Analyzing Electrochemical Communication in Bacterial Networks; Multiple RIS Transmissions for Multihop Relaying THz Wireless Systems; Design of Aperiodic Multilayer Dual Band Meta surface Using Analytical Approach; Efficient mirror element assignment in OIRS-assisted UAV-based FSO networks with rate adaptation; Interruption-disruption analysis of LEO satellite communications on millimeter wave bands; Unmanned aerial vehicle-based communications for coastal maritime areas; Reducing pilot overhead of antenna ports in MIMO OFDM systems using high-resolution mapping.

I am proud to note that a real member of IEEE, in the field of communications and networks, Professor Sergo Shavgulidze of our university, has a very high citation index. It should also be noted that a few years ago when a conference was held in Batumi under the auspices of IEEE, the GTU was the co-organizer of the mentioned event. This directly indicates the successful work of the scientists of our university”, said Tamar Lominadze.

The Rector of the Georgian Technical University wishes success to the participants of the IEEE Black Sea International Scientific Conference – “Communication and Networks”.

As the Academician David Gurgenidze noted, leading scientists and researchers from 16 countries are participating in the conference along with scientists from the Georgian Technical University. Among them are the USA, Germany, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, India, Ukraine, Russia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Kazakhstan, China, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Italy, Sweden, and Great Britain.

“The international conference allows researchers to present the results of their research and at the same time to internationalize scientific achievements. It is no coincidence that the partner and co-organizer of such a high-ranking conference is the Georgian Technical University, considering that the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems has been one of the main centers of education in informatics and automation in our country for 71 years. Thus, the topic of the international conference is our area of interest, and participation in it will lay the foundation for establishing new scientific research contacts. I want to wish success to the participants of the conference”, said David Gurgenidze.

 The conference participants were presented with scientific reports by famous scientists: Professor of the University of Minnesota and California Institute of Technology, member of IEEE and OPTICA (Optical Society of America OSA) - Mohamed-Slim Alouini, who is currently working on solving technical challenges related to the uneven distribution of information and communication technologies; Dr. Egon Schultz, who has many years of experience in research and innovation in the field of mobile communications; In 1988, he joined the mobile network division of Siemens AG, Munich; Became a member of Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) in April 2007; In 2009, Dr. Schultz joined Huawei's Munich Research Center and led advanced technology research; He has been actively involved in 5G/B5G research, and his current research work is focused on 6G. In addition, he is a board member of the European Technology Platform (ETP) NetworldEurope, actively promotes the NetworldEurope SRIA, and collaborates with the 6G-IA/SNS Council;

Dr. Erdal Panayirci - from Michigan State University, majoring in electrical engineering, communication theory, synchronization, advanced signal processing techniques, and their applications in wireless electrical, underwater, and optical communications. He is currently a professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Kadir Has University, Istanbul, and an invited professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering at Princeton University. He is a member of IEEE GLOBECOM/ICC Management and Strategy, as well as IEEE ComSoc Awards Standing Committees; is a member of IEEE Life Fellow and the Turkish National Academy of Sciences;

From the United Kingdom - Professor Aryan Kaushik, who has been working at the University of Sussex since 2021. He was a professor at UCL, University of Edinburgh, and also worked at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Universities of Bologna, Italy and Luxembourg, Athena RC, Greece, and Beihang University - China; He is the editor of Elsevier, IEEE CTN, IEEE Internet of Things Magazine, IEEE OJCOMS, IEEE Communications Letters and several IEEE special issues such as IEEET Network, IEEE Ieo., IEEE OJCOMS;

Professor Wonjae Shin - Associate Professor at South Korea University. He was a professor at Aju University and Pusan National University and editor of IEEE OJCOMS; In 2017, he was awarded the gold prize from the IEEE Student Paper Contest; Since 2020, he has been the winner of IEEE ComSoc’s Fred W. Ellersick Prize and Asia-Pacific Outstanding Young Researcher Award.

The deputy rector in the field of science, Professor Tamar Lominadze, presented a certificate to Mohamed-Slim Alouini as the author of one of the interesting reports. It is worth noting that Mohamed-Slim Alouini’s report was about 6G technology, achievements, and challenges. As he pointed out, the transformative impact of the Internet and Communication Technologies (ICT) has changed society, touching every aspect from the economy to healthcare. The widespread deployment of 5G continues, but the focus is already on sixth-generation wireless communication systems (WCSs).

As Professor Alwin mentioned, the future of connectivity in the 2030s is expected to be shaped by 6G, which aims to provide unparalleled communication services to meet the demands of hyper-connectivity and in line with the UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, taking into account the important aspects of 6G, sustainable global connectivity will change significantly
