Testing is underway at the Georgian Technical University to determine language competence in foreign languages for participation in the open international competition announced for academic positions.
The test, which is being held at the examination center located in the first academic building of the university, is intended for professors and teachers who plan to participate in the open international competition announced by the Georgian Technical University for academic positions for a period of 4 years from the 2025-2026 academic year and, according to the terms of the said competition, are required to have knowledge of the relevant foreign language at least at the B2 level, depending on the subject groups, or plan to deliver lectures in a foreign language in certain subjects.
According to Tamar Tsereteli, Vice-Rector of the Georgian Technical University, the testing to determine language competence in foreign languages is conducted in several stages throughout the day, and it is attended by the part of professors and teachers registered in the open international competition who are required to speak a foreign language or plan to give lectures in a foreign language - a total of 230 contestants.
“The internationalization of our country’s educational and scientific landscape requires a high level of language proficiency among academic staff. This is why testing in a foreign language is not only a requirement of the open international competition announced by Georgian Technical University, but also a crucial step for the university’s integration into the international arena. This integration aims to develop foreign-language educational programs and offer diverse opportunities to both Georgian and international students. It is essential for Georgian Technical University that its professors and educators are highly competitive in the global educational and scientific community, which is virtually impossible without at least a B2 level of proficiency in a foreign language. We prioritize ensuring that the academic staff participating in this competition fully meets this standard, enabling them to read academic material in a foreign language proficiently and effectively participate in international scientific collaborations,” says Tamar Tsereteli.
As the Vice-Rector notes, the open international competition announced by Georgian Technical University to fill academic positions for a four-year term beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year will take place from July 16 to July 22 of this year.
