The international scientific seminar – “Innovative Approaches in Water Management, Environmental Protection, and Civil Construction" was held at the “Tsotne Mirtskhulava Water Management Research Institute” of the Georgian Technical University, which was dedicated to the 99th anniversary of the institute establishment.

The seminar was opened by the director of the institute, academician Givi Gavardashvili.

He thanked the guests and employees of the institute for their active participation in the international seminar.

Joanna Pavlovich and Aldona Skotnicka- Siepsiak, professors of the Faculty of Geoengineering of the University of Warmia-Masuria (Olsztyn, Poland) presented a report at the seminar, which was attended by professors, masters, and doctorate students of the faculties of Construction, Sustainable Mountain Development and Agrarian Science and Biosystems Engineering of the Georgian Technical University of Georgia.

Professor Joanna Pavlovic presented the prediction of the deformation of historical-cultural monuments and old buildings, as well as low-pressure dams, using modern 3D laser scanners and drone photography. As the speaker mentioned, using innovative methods, makes is possible to fix any deformation and damage to buildings and structures, including cracks, in three-dimensional space.

In addition, the Polish researcher discussed the issue of determining the condition of low-pressure hydraulic nodes in rivers using laser scanning, drone, and BIM technologies to identify relevant defects.

She also discussed the importance and benefits of 3D laser scanning in planning works for the repair and rehabilitation of any type of facility.

In the introductory part of the report, Professor Aldona Skotnicka- Siepsiak of the University of Warmia-Masuria focused on the integral management of water resources and lakes in the Masurian region of Poland, considering climate changes. According to her, this place is a specific area and needs special care during floods and waterfalls.

The speaker also drew attention to the causes of floods correlated with the rain intensity.

The final part of the international scientific seminar was devoted to questions and answers and discussion related to the topic.
