The Academician David Gurgenidze, the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, expresses his sorrow over the death of Professor David Tavkhelidze, an internationally recognized scientist, the head of the Department of Science and Innovation of GTU, member-correspondent of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, the laureate of the Georgian State Award, the knight of the Order of Honor and Medal of Honor, and sends condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and graduates.

The administration, scientific and academic circles, employees, and students of the GTU join the rector’s condolences.

“We are saying goodbye to a famous scientist, educator of many worthy generations, the head of the university’s science and innovation department, former dean of the faculty of transport systems and mechanical engineering, the doctor of technical sciences, the laureate of the Georgian state award in the field of science and technology, the knight of the Order of Honor and Medal of Honor, the member of theory of mechanisms and machines of the International Federation (IFTOMM), member-correspondent of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, the academician of the Georgian Engineering Academy and the European Academy of Science and Arts, widely recognized researcher in European and American scientific circles, beloved colleague and friend, Professor David Tavkhelidze.

Mr. David Tavkhelidze faithfully served Georgian science, our alma mater, and was involved in important research projects for decades.

His works are invaluable in the direction of automatic management of technological processes of various types and purposes, such as kinematic and dynamic analysis and synthesis of multi-ring lever and industrial robot performance mechanisms; design and creation-implementation of double action hydro turbines for small power plants; design and implementation of small power wind power plants; Elaboration of the foundations for the creation of metal structures, devices for permanent monitoring based on the use of optical fiber sensors, etc.

David Tavkhelidze published 116 scientific works, including 20 copyright certificates and patents, 7 monographs, and 7 textbooks.

On behalf of the scientific and academic circles, employees, and students of the Georgian Technical University, we are deeply sorry over the death of Professor David Tavkhelidze and express our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, the Department of Science and Innovation of the University, his students and graduates. May the Lord enlighten his soul in the kingdom of Heaven, - is mentioned in the rector’s condolence letter.
