Pupils of grades 9-10 of the Temur Bokuchava Abkhazian Public School #7 in Senaki and Beka Gvachliani, Minister of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, visited the Virtual Modeling and Design Center operating at the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of the Georgian Technical University and got acquainted with the innovative projects that teams of pupils from public schools, including pupils displaced from Abkhazia, implemented under the mentorship of university scientists and won victories in local and international competitions at various times.

Teams of pupils from the Temur Bokuchava Abkhazian Public School #7 in Senaki will develop innovative projects under the mentorship of Davit Songulashvili, a researcher at the Department of Engineering Physics of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of the university, head of the Virtual Modeling and Design Center, and university researchers. In the future, they will present them at the Shota Rustaveli Georgian National Science Foundation’s Inventors and Researchers Competition - “Leonardo da Vinci”.

Minister Beka Gvachliani, on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, promised support to talented pupils interested in science.

The meeting with students at the GTU Virtual Modeling and Design Center was attended by the GTU Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, Professor Taliko Zhvania, professors of the Department of Engineering Physics, Deputy Minister of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia David Mikava, Advisor to the Minister Nino Lobzhanidze, Director of the Temur Bokuchava Abkhazian Public School #7 in Senaki Eliso Sichinava, and physics teacher Lia Okhanashvili.

According to the Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, in the process of working on innovative projects, the newly formed teams of pupils of the Senaki Temur Bokuchava Abkhazian Public School #7 will be allowed to effectively use the rich laboratory resources of the University Center for Virtual Modeling and Design and, with modern teaching methods, successfully master the STEM skills of independent and teamwork. Professor Taliko Zhvania wished the students success in the scientific arena.

As Professor David Songulashvili, a scientist at the Department of Engineering Physics at GTU and head of the Virtual Modeling and Design Center, noted, several generations of students and young people who were internally displaced from the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia have been raised at the university center and have achieved significant success in the field of innovative engineering inventions.

According to David Songulashvili, new teams of pupils from the Temur Bokuchava Abkhazian Public School #7 in Senaki will soon begin working on projects online under the mentorship of GTU scientists and researchers.

“It is noteworthy that talented generations of students displaced from Abkhazia have been raised at the University Center for Virtual Modeling and Design and have achieved significant success. We are considering the innovative projects they have developed in the STEM direction and the victories they have won in various competitions. It is gratifying that this time too, the pupils of Senaki Abkhazian Public School #7 and their teachers are so motivated that they have expressed their readiness to form teams that will work on STEM projects. We and the researchers from the Department of Engineering Physics of Georgian Technical University will mentor the pupils. There is quite a lot of work. Shortly, we will begin to work intensively in an online format, and we also plan to conduct training for public school teachers. All work will be carried out based on the University Center for Virtual Modeling and Design. We will present the prepared projects at an important STEM event such as the “Leonardo da Vinci” competition for inventors and researchers of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the Shota Rustaveli Georgian National Science Foundation. We would like to thank the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, the Personal Minister, Mr. Beka Gvachliani, and his deputy, Mr. David Mikava, for supporting the motivated and talented generation of young people displaced from Abkhazia,” said David Songhulashvili.

Professor David Songhulashvili showed the pupils and teachers of the Temur Bokuchava Abkhazian Public School #7 in Senaki, as well as the Minister and Deputy Minister of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, innovative projects created at the University Center for Virtual Modeling and Design, as well as real, virtual and remotely controlled laboratories. At the end of the meeting, he presented the public school and students with STEM program kits, an ultrasound robot, and electronic programs for the physics-chemistry virtual laboratory course and the Abkhazian language course as gifts.
