Professors and students of the Faculty of Business Technologies of the Georgian Technical University and the Faculty of Mountain Sustainable Development, as well as leading European universities, conducted an eco-hike in the protected area of Tana within the framework of the international student conference dedicated to World Tourism Day.
Scientists and students of the Georgian Technical University and the leading universities of Europe, namely Italy, Canada, Germany, Czech Republic, and Turkey, participated in the international conference – “Peace and Sustainable Mountain Tourism - Challenges and Opportunities” and the trekking seminar in the Tana Valley.
As the dean of the Faculty of Business Technologies of the Georgian Technical University, Professor Rusudan Kutateladze stated that after the international conference, scientists and students of the Faculty of Business Technologies and the Faculty of Sustainable Mountain Development conducted a successful and comprehensive eco-hike in the protected area of Tana.
“We purposefully continued the work of the international conference in the Tana valley. The Tana Valley is an important site for biodiversity conservation.
The valley is characterized by some species of flora and fauna and is distinguished by the species included in the “Red List” of Georgia. Thus, for both our and foreign scientists and students, the scientific research section held here carries a double load.
I take this opportunity to thank the rector of the Georgian Technical University, academician David Gurgenidze, whose merit is the holding of the international conference at such a high level. Thanks to the Agency for Protected Areas, Resorts Development Agency, National Environment Agency, Georgian Tourism Association (GTA), GTU scientific-research institute – “Techinform”, Japan International Cooperation Agency-Georgia Office (JICA), The Grassroots Institute - Canada, the University of Milan (Italy), the hotel - Pullman Tbilisi Axis Towers, the tourist company - Magic Roads Georgia, the Ecocenter of Environmental Protection (UN ECOSOC consultative status organization), the International Association of Mountainous Regions of the Caucasus, the Regional Center for Consulting and New Professions.
I would like to thank the Director of the International Relations Service of the United Nations Tourism Organization - Beka Jakeli, the Georgian and foreign scientists and students-youth involved in the conference, who spent the 3 days of the conference interestingly and pleasantly”, said Rusudan Kutateladze.
The international student conference dedicated to World Tourism Day – “Peace and Sustainable Mountain Tourism - Challenges and Opportunities” - was held for three days, in 3 sections, in a hybrid format. In addition to students, international experts, and Georgian and foreign researchers participated in the work of the conference and presented reports to the audience.
Scientists discussed with youth the global and local challenges and issues of sustainable development of mountain tourism.
The official part of the event ended with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Georgian Technical University and the National Tourism Administration. David Gurgenidze and Maya Omiadze signed the bilateral document, which envisages the deepening of cooperation in the future.
