The Faculty of Transport Systems and Mechanical Engineering of the Georgian Technical University is starting the new 2024-2025 academic year with the 8th Georgian-Polish International Scientific Conference – “Transport Bridge Europe-Asia”.
In the Georgian-Polish international scientific conference, the co-organizers together with the Georgian Technical University, Silesian University of Technology (Gliwice, Poland), Akaki Tsereteli State University (Kutaisi, Georgia), and the Rafiel Dvali Institute of Machine Mechanics, and the sponsors and partners are the companies “Avtotechno”, “Lion Trans”, “Greenway” and “Autobahn”, more than 70 scientists are participating, including more than 20 researchers from various European partner universities.
According to the dean of the Faculty of Transportation Systems and Mechanical Engineering of the Georgian Technical University - Professor Boris Gitolendia, the faculty is filled through the Unified National Exams. In total, 216 bachelor’s, 30 master’s and 3 doctoral students were enrolled, and 73 continued their studies at the faculty through mobility.
“The number of admitted students is the best in the last 5 years. If we consider the current number of active educational programs, then the result is the best compared to the data of the last 10 years.
To organize the 2024-2025 academic year, several measures were implemented at the faculty and to support the infrastructure.
With the support of the rector of the Georgian Technical University, academician David Gurgenidze, and the administration, the teaching, auxiliary, and laboratory spaces were repaired and renovated, namely: the bathrooms of the first educational building were arranged and completely renovated; The Interchangeability Lab, training auditoriums, and employee workspaces were updated and renovated. An educational auditorium was created for the Mechanical Engineering English language program, student space was organized and equipped with appropriate equipment.
With the support of the German company ELREHA and the Association of Refrigerants of Georgia, the educational-practical auditorium was renovated and equipped with modern equipment, where it is planned to implement the professional training program – “Service of Equipment Working on Refrigerant”.
In addition, under the auspices of the Innovation Inclusion and Quality Program of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia – “Georgia I2Q (IBRD)”, within the framework of the World Bank-funded project – “Research and Innovation Support Program – ReInnova”, a modern concept student space - “Laboratory of thought” was renovated and equipped with the latest inventory and equipment. It should be noted that the demonstration sample intended for the aviation engineering program – “Mercury” type aircraft was placed in the square of the I building. According to the syllabi of the educational programs, the basic and auxiliary literature and study materials were updated in various training courses”, noted Boris Gitolandia.
In the new academic year, with the financial support of the “Avtotechno” company, an innovative concept "Learning Center" is being created at the Faculty of Transport Systems and Mechanical Engineering, the opening is scheduled for October 15th.
In the 2024-2025 academic year, the action plan of the Faculty of Transport Systems and Mechanical Engineering administration envisages some events and activities that will further improve the learning environment and university life for both students and professors.
