Georgian Technical University PhD student Archil Surmava successfully defended his PhD thesis under the supervision of Prof. Alexander Sharmazanashvili. Main topic of thesis was development analysis and synthesis for complete engineering geometry model of ATLAS detector. Studies for thesis was done at CERN. The topic of PhD thesis is of great interest to a lot of scientists working at CERN this is why one of reviewers during thesis defense was famous scientist, Prof. Jean-Pierre Charles Revol.
He holds degrees in engineering, mathematics and particle physics. He was the member of the group which discovered gluon in 1979 and W± and Z0particles in 1983. For this exceptional contribution members of the group were awarded with honorary award and two leading members were given a Nobel Prize.
Prof. Jean-Pierre Charles Revol emphasized originality of the work using of modern computing tools. This new approach to the geometry description of complex systems will be used beyond ATLAS’s applications and the development described in this thesis is extremely useful from the practical point of view.
Professor from CERN pointed out actuality and high quality of PhD research conducted.
