Georgian Technical University Held a Charity Event in the Tserovani IDP Settlement
With the initiative and support of the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, as part of the Christmas social responsibility events cycle, representatives of the GTU Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems and the organization „TM Royal Group” held a humanitarian event in the Tserovani IDP settlement.

Within the framework of the event, the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Taliko Zhvania, Deputy Dean, Professor Nona Otkhozoria, Head of the Quality Service Assurance Service, Professor Tinatin Kaishauri, Head of the Information Technology Department, Professor David Kapanadze, students of the same faculty, as well as the Head of the Women’s Association of the Georgian Technical University, Professor Nazi Kutsiava, and the Head of „TM Royal Group” Tea Macharashvili, donated necessities, products, and clothing to large families living in the Tserovani IDP settlement.

According to the Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, the cycle of charity and Christmas events is being implemented at the initiative of the Rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, and has already become a tradition. According to Professor Taliko Zhvania, the initiative aims to support vulnerable groups in society and strengthen social responsibility and civic awareness among students and academic staff.

“The Georgian Technical University, as a higher educational institution, does not consider its mission to be only the education of highly qualified engineering or humanitarian personnel. Our responsibility is much broader and includes social and humane obligations to society. It is in this context that we should consider the charitable event held in the Tserovani IDP settlement, which was implemented with the initiative and support of the university’s rector, Academician David Gurgenidze. It is especially important for us that both academic staff and students are actively involved in such events. This contributes to the formation of social solidarity, compassion, and civic responsibility among the youth, which is one of the most important components of modern higher education. This year, for the first time, „TM Royal Group” and its head, Tea Macharashvili, participated in the charitable event together with the faculty, for which we would like to express our gratitude. The faculty will continue to actively engage in similar initiatives in the future and cooperate with university structures and public organizations to contribute to the strengthening of social equality and humane values, within our capabilities,” says Taliko Zhvania.

According to the head of the GTU Women’s Association, the Georgian Technical University initiated a cycle of charity events in December-January, featuring pre-New Year and Christmas events. Within this framework, products were donated to beneficiaries of the nursing home for the elderly and the disabled, as well as to large families in Tserovani. According to Professor Nazi Kutsiava, with the support of the rector, academician David Gurgenidze, the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, together with the Women’s Association, permanently holds charity events.

“One of the main priorities of the Women’s Association of the Georgian Technical University is to support and strengthen social responsibility, equality, and human values. The charity event held in the Tserovani IDP settlement is based on these principles and again confirms that the academic space should be actively involved in solving social issues important to society. Significantly, various structural units of the university, academic staff, and students unite in such initiatives. This cooperation not only provides concrete assistance but also creates an example of social solidarity, human compassion, and active citizenship. Supporting the families of IDPs is a direction of particular importance for our association, as it is related to both social justice and the protection of human dignity. We believe that such actions, even on a small scale, have a significant impact on both the recipients of assistance and the participants themselves. The Women’s Association of the Georgian Technical University will continue to actively participate in social projects in the future and, in cooperation with the university leadership, will promote humane values and the development of an inclusive environment,” states Nazi Kutsiava.

„TM Royal Group” considers the principles of social responsibility to be one of the most important directions in its activities. Based on these values, it is a special honor for the organization to cooperate with the Georgian Technical University and participate in initiatives that support vulnerable groups in society.

„The charity event held in the Tserovani IDP settlement clearly shows how fruitful the cooperation of the academic sector and private organizations can be in the process of solving social problems. Such joint efforts not only assist specific families but also establish a culture of solidarity, mutual assistance, and social responsibility in society. In our opinion, a partnership based on education and social activity creates sustainable results and real changes in society; therefore, „TM Royal Group” is ready to support such humanitarian and educational initiatives and continue cooperation with the Georgian Technical University in the future,” says Tea Macharashvili.

The university regularly takes care of vulnerable groups of society, beneficiaries of old people’s shelters or socially vulnerable families.
