GTU Rector Congratulates Students on Receiving Green and Agro Scholarships
9 students from the Georgian Technical University are among the 72 students from across Georgia who have received 2025 “Green” and “Agro” scholarships.

Within the framework of this year’s “Green and Agro Scholarships” program, the following students from the Georgian Technical University became “Green Scholars”: Vakhtang Bluashvili, a student of the Geology Master’s Program of the Faculty of Mining Geology and Sustainable Mountain Development, and Lasha Okmelashvili, Lasha Kusiani, Elene Lominadze, Giorgi Moseshvili, and Tengiz Shubitidze, master’s students of the Mining and Geoengineering Program; The “Agro Scholarship” was awarded to Nini Kavlashvili and Shota Ibelashvili, students of the Bachelor’s Program in Food Technology of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Chemical Technologies, as well as Giorgi Menognishvili, a master’s student of the “Viticulture-Enology” program.

The Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, congratulates the young people on receiving the “Green” and “Agro” scholarships and wishes them success in their career development. According to the Rector, today’s scholarship recipients are future engineers-technologists and researchers who will make a significant contribution to the climate-smart development of Georgia. In this context, according to David Gurgenidze, it is essential to strengthen the fields of environmental protection and agriculture with young and talented personnel.

“I congratulate our students on receiving this year’s “Green” and “Agro” scholarships. This success is a clear confirmation of their purposeful work, great desire to gain knowledge and develop, and at the same time, a great responsibility in view of the future challenges. The Georgian Technical University considers the development of engineering and technological professions that are directly related to the sustainable development of our country, environmental protection, combating climate change, and the development of agriculture in modern, innovative ways a priority. “Green” and “Agro” scholarship holders are the young generation who will develop into the engineers-technologists, researchers, and professionals needed by Georgia tomorrow.

I am pleased that the students of the Georgian Technical University are actively involved in programs that include not only academic and research success, but also social responsibility. Their success serves as a strong motivation for other students and confirms that the Georgian Technical University fosters a strong educational and scientific environment for training qualified personnel in the country’s priority fields.

The award ceremony for the scholarship recipients, which was held at the “Radisson Blu Iveria” Hotel, was attended by the President of the Supervisory Board of the Georgian Technical University, Professor Zurab Gudavadze, and the Head of the Career Development Department of the Academic Process Management Service, Coordinator of the “Green and Agro Scholarships” Program at the Georgian Technical University, Associate Professor Nato Katamadze.

As Nato Katamadze notes, the winning students of the “Green and Agro Scholarships” program were awarded by the Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, David Songhulashvili, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Baia Kvitsiani, Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to Georgia, Douglas Webb, Chairwoman of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Maia Bitadze, and Chairwoman of the Agriculture Committee, Gela Samkharauli. According to him, each young person was awarded a 1,500-GEL scholarship within the framework of the program.

For your information, the “Green and Agro Scholarships” program has been implemented by the Environmental Information and Education Center of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture since 2022.

The program promotes the popularization of shortage environmental and agricultural professions, encourages excellent students, and creates opportunities for them to gain practical experience in relevant state agencies. The “Green and Agro Scholarships” program is implemented within the framework of the project “Climate Change Disaster Risk Reduction in Georgia”, which is funded by the Government of Georgia, the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Governments of Sweden and Switzerland, and its implementation is provided by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
