An Event Dedicated to International Mountain Day at GTU
An event dedicated to International Mountain Day was held at the Georgian Technical University, organized by the Faculty of Mining-Geology and Sustainable Mountain Development, aiming of mobilizing the attention of students and the academic community towards mountain ecosystems, sustainable development, and rational use of natural resources.

The event, which included thematic presentations, research by students and scientists, discussions, and exhibitions, was opened by the Vice-Rector of the Georgian Technical University.

Professor Tamar Tsereteli spoke about the impact of climate change in the mountain region, modern mining technologies, and international practices of sustainable development.

“It is crucial for the Georgian Technical University to hold events that contribute to deepening scientific interest in young people and developing the necessary competencies for their professional development. Activities related to the International Mountain Day not only increase awareness of mountain ecosystems and the principles of sustainable development, but also create an opportunity for the integration of scientific research, innovation and practical experience. The participation of the Faculty of Mining-Geology and Sustainable Mountain Development in this initiative confirms the important role that the Georgian Technical University plays in the process of sustainable management of the country’s natural resources and training highly qualified specialists. I am sure that our students will be actively involved in research and educational projects to contribute to the formation of a sustainable and innovative future,” Tamar Tsereteli noted in her speech.

The Dean of the Faculty of Mining-Geology and Sustainable Mountain Development thanked the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, the President of the Supervisory Board, Professor Zurab Gudavadze, the guests, and spoke about the plans that the faculty is planning in partnership with the private sector. According to Professor Noe Khozrevanidze, every year, on International Mountain Day, the international community together supports the sustainable development of mountain regions and the implementation of scientific research related to them.

“International Mountain Day is a serious platform for sharing knowledge and exchanging scientific ideas. I am glad that the students of our faculty are actively involved in both research and practical projects. Their activity is not only an organic part of the educational process, but also an important prerequisite for a thorough understanding of such complex and dynamic fields as modern mining engineering and geological sciences. Participation in practical activities allows the students to evaluate the effectiveness of scientific approaches in a real environment, develop critical analysis skills, and form a professional vision. The faculty, in turn, continues to promote the organic integration of science and practice. For us, it is a priority to create an educational space that ensures innovative research, adaptation to modern technologies, and compliance with international standards. We believe that such an approach will give the next generation the status of highly qualified specialists, as well as the opportunity to actively participate in the formation of the country’s sustainable development policy, in the process of effective resource management, and in those international scientific networks that create trends in global progress. The mission of our faculty is to pave the way for students to acquire knowledge and skills that will allow them to integrate into the international academic space and, at the same time, strengthen Georgia’s position in the development of mining and geological sciences,” Noe Khozrevanidze noted.

At the event dedicated to International Mountain Day, the Georgian Technical University and its partner organizations discussed specific plans and initiatives for joint cooperation aimed at strengthening the research, protection, and sustainable development of mountain regions.

At the end of the event, organized by the head of the Georgian Chefs Association, Maia Kuprava, professional chefs presented samples of sustainable mountain cuisine to the audience on the following topics: the history and preparation technology of authentic mountain products; preparation and transformation of dishes with modern techniques; and the role of modern techniques in Georgian gastronomy.

Mountain cuisine dishes were prepared using original recipes and served to the audience by gastronomic researcher Dalila Tsatava, member of the World Chefs Association jury, Vice-President of the Georgian Chefs Association Gogi Bazandarashvili, Ambassador of the Georgian Chefs Association, PR spokesperson, brand chef, and restaurateur Khatia Nadareishvili, as well as chefs Torgva Gogochuri and Vako Vashakidze.
