An Informational Meeting Held at GTU on the Occasion of the 1700th Anniversary of the Declaration of Christianity as the State Religion
Vice-Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Professor Tamar Lominadze and the scientific and academic circles of the university met with Academician of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, linguist Avtandil Arabuli and scientists from the public movement “What Unites Us” and discussed with them issues related to participation in large-scale events dedicated to the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as the state religion in Georgia in 2026.

The meeting, which was chaired by the Vice-Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Professor Tamar Lominadze, attended deans of faculties, directors of research institutes and scientists, the head and employees of the Department of Science and Innovations of the GTU, as well as the president and members of the University Club of Young Scientists.

As the Vice-Rector noted at the meeting, since 2024, the Georgian Technical University has been actively involved in implementing the cyclical cultural and educational program “Georgian Identity”, which was developed under the leadership of the Patriarchate of Georgia and the Georgian National Academy of Sciences.

According to her, within the framework of the program dedicated to the date of declaring Christianity as the state religion, famous scientists and researchers held several interesting public lectures at the Georgian Technical University, thus giving students the opportunity to analyze the most important stages of Georgian history that determined the unique culture and national values of the Georgian state. They also received comprehensive information about Georgia’s achievements over the centuries, its state vision, the most important historical facts and events, and relations established within and outside the country.

According to Tamar Lominadze, with the initiative and direct involvement of the Rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, as well as with the active support of the university administration, the Georgian Technical University, as one of the largest and oldest engineering, technical and technological schools in the region, expresses its great desire and readiness to actively participate in the large-scale cyclical events marking the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as the state religion in Georgia, which will be held throughout the country next year.

The Vice-Rector noted, considering the great importance of national values and merits, the faculties of the Georgian Technical University, the University Research Center of Theology, research institutes, students, and young scientists express their desire to participate in the anniversary events.

According to Tamar Lominadze, the Rector and Administration of the Georgian Technical University will organize the mobilization of intellectual resources to hold cyclical scientific-academic events in the university’s spaces in a pre-developed, original format throughout the anniversary year.

In turn, Academician of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences Avtandil Arabuli and scientists from the public movement “What Unites Us” presented their vision of the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as the state religion to the scientific and academic circles of the Georgian Technical University and provided information on organizational issues.

As the members of the initiative group stated, given the importance of the anniversary, it will also be celebrated on an international scale, in which the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - UNESCO will also be actively involved.
