Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze met with renowned scientists of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) - the leader of the global CMS experiment at CERN, and at the same time, Honorary Doctor and Affiliated Professor of GTU, Tiziano Camporesi, and the speaker of the CERN SHIP experiment, Professor of Physics at Imperial College London (Great Britain), Andrei Golutvin.

The purpose of the working meeting was to discuss future scientific collaborations within the framework of the new memorandums signed between the Georgian Technical University and the European Organization for Nuclear Research.

The meeting was attended by Vice-Rectors Tamar Tsereteli and Tamar Lominadze, Director of the GTU Institute of Quantum Physics and Engineering Technologies, Leader of the GTU CERN-LHC Group, and Representative of the Government of Georgia at CERN, Professor Zviad Tsamalaidze, and Member of the GTU CERN-LHC Group, Dr. Irakli Lomidze.

The parties discussed issues related to the renewal of the second phase of the CERN/CMS experiment, as well as work on the first stage of realizing the future circular collider - FCC, and the participation of scientists and researchers from the Georgian Technical University in the CERN/SHIP experiment.

According to Academician David Gurgenidze, the active involvement of the research potential of the Georgian Technical University in the current and future global experiments of CERN is crucial for the integration and effective positioning of both GTU and Georgian researchers in the international scientific community.

As the rector noted, the Georgian Technical University is increasingly trying to involve young scientists and students in these processes.

As CERN scientists noted, the European Organization for Nuclear Research highly appreciates the partnership with the Georgian Technical University and the achievements of the GTU group of scientists and engineers in the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, and also highly appreciates the active support of the university and its rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, in the CMS collaboration; accordingly, CERN considers the Georgian Technical University and its scientists to be indispensable members of existing and future collaborations.

During the working visit, CERN scientists - Professors Tiziano Camporesi and Andrei Golutvin, will meet with the Director of the Institute of Quantum Physics and Engineering Technologies of the Georgian Technical University, the leader of the CERN-LHC group at GTU, Professor Zviad Tsamalaidze, and scientists from the CERN-LHC group, with whom they will discuss the next action plan of the collaboration. In addition, scientists from the European Organization for Nuclear Research will hold public lectures for GTU researchers and students.
