“Energy is one of the oldest and, at the same time, particularly strategic directions of the Georgian Technical University. It is at the Faculty of Power Engineering that knowledge is created, which is transformed into continuous energy. This energy - with the powerful infrastructure created by our graduate energy specialists and researchers, traditional and green technologies, renewable resources, and digital innovations - illuminates our country and is aimed at sustainable economic development,” said the Vice-Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Professor Tamar Tsereteli, at an event dedicated to the Day of the Faculty of Power Engineering.
The 103rd anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Power Engineering was celebrated at the university. The event dedicated to the Day of the Faculty was opened by the Vice-Rector. Professor Tamar Tsereteli thanked the gathered audience and noted that energy is one of the cornerstones of the country’s sustainable development.
“On behalf of the Rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, I would like to thank our professors and staff, the Dean of the Faculty of Power Engineering, veteran energy specialists, for their tireless work, which ensures the quality of education, the dynamics and effectiveness of scientific research, close ties with the local energy industry, and international partnerships. Your dedication and professionalism to the Faculty of Power Engineering are among the determinants of the success of the Georgian Technical University. As the Vice-Rector, I would like to express my gratitude to our students, and especially the first-year students. These young people have linked their future profession to the energy sector and its development. It is important for the Georgian Technical University that the Faculty of Power Engineering be not only a place for acquiring knowledge and developing the skills necessary for the sector, but also a powerful university center, where the intellect of scientists and students, in partnership with the industry, combines knowledge, modern technology, and innovations for a common goal - and this is an energetically strong and sustainable Georgia. Congratulations on the Day of the Faculty of Power Engineering,” the Vice-Rector noted in her speech.
Dean, Professor Ketevan Kutateladze, thanked the students of the Faculty of Power Engineering, scientific and academic circles, graduates, and guests for participating in the event and congratulated the Faculty on its Day. According to her, energy is the foundation of the economy, one of the main pillars of state security, and a guarantee of the stability that allows us to live in a developed, modern world.
“The history of our faculty is written along with the successes and challenges achieved over decades. Our graduates have created and developed the country’s energy system. They still hold leading positions in industry, state structures, and academia. Tradition and reality oblige us to maintain high-quality education, protect academic dignity, and always be at the epicenter of innovations that will transform the future of energy. Our faculty has many new opportunities ahead. The world today stands between threats and opportunities in energy transformation. The development of renewable energies, energy efficiency, and technological innovations is the direction in which our students, young researchers, and graduates become leaders. Our goal is for the Faculty of Power Engineering to be a place where learning is not only theory, but also a creative process, and to gain practical experience. It is noteworthy that in the current academic year, the Faculty of Power Engineering accepted 342 freshmen at three bachelor’s programs, 60 at two master’s programs, and 14 doctoral students. In total, 1437 students with active status receive education at the faculty. It is the youth who will implement Georgia’s energy transformation, overcome environmental challenges, effectively use the potential of the sun, wind, and water, and create a new energy future - cleaner, smarter, more sustainable.
I would like to thank our dear colleagues - scientists, teachers, administration, faculty distinguished representatives, and emeritus professors- for their hard work, dedication, and spiritual strength. We are a strong team that creates new knowledge every day, builds bridges between the university and the energy industry, and cares about the future of the country. I wish success to our students, scientific and academic staff. Congratulations on the Day of the Faculty of Power Engineering,” said Ketevan Kutateladze.
Renowned energy expert, academician Revaz Kavtaradze, delivered an interesting and informative report on Georgian scientists working abroad in hydro and thermal power engineers.
At the end of the event, students and guests toured the newly established Renewable Energy Sources Laboratory at the Faculty of Power Engineering. It is noteworthy that the Georgian Technical University was supported in creating a rich educational and scientific laboratory base at the faculty by the company “Telasi”, Schneider Electric, the Austrian company HERZ Armaturen, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Georgian International Energy Corporation, and the Georgian Energy Development Fund.
