At the Georgian Technical University, organized by the University Center for International Accreditation, Vice-Rector, Professor Tamar Lominadze, as well as deans of GTU engineering faculties, researchers and doctoral students met with the renowned American scientist and engineering education expert, Professor Roger V. Gonzalez, and discussed with him the opportunities and prospects for the development of the field of engineering education.
As part of the meeting, Roger V. Gonzalez, with the direct involvement of Georgian colleagues, also held a seminar on the topic “Modern Challenges in Engineering Education”.
The Vice-Rector of the Georgian Technical University introduced the American scientist and expert to the gathered public. Tamar Lominadze introduced Roger Gonzalez to the achievements of the Georgian Technical University, its scientists and researchers, scientific research institutes and centers; spoke about the many years of successful collaboration with leading universities and the largest scientific organizations in the United States, Europe and Asia - including: FERMILAB in America, CERN in Switzerland, KEK and J-Parc in Japan - and active and effective involvement in global scientific experiments; provided information on student and faculty exchange programs, modified educational programs and university research priorities.
During the seminar, the guest spoke in detail about the challenges in the field of engineering education, such as: directions of global development of engineering education in the context of rapid technological changes; the need to review engineering educational programs and bring them into line with modern professional requirements; the importance of developing leadership and professional skills along with engineering competence; a comparative analysis of engineering educational programs using the example of universities in the UK and the USA.
After the seminar, the Vice-Rector, GTU researchers, and Professor Roger Gonzalez discussed the challenges in the field of engineering education and shared their views with the American scientist and engineering education expert.

Gonzalez (PhD, PE, F.ASME, F.AIMBE) is a faculty member at the University of Texas at El Paso, USA, and is the Director of the Engineering Leadership Education Program and the first Chair of the Department of Engineering Education and Leadership; is an expert in biomedical and mechanical engineering and a current expert of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); directs the Mike Loya Endowed Chair in Engineering and the Alliance for Integrated Engineering (A4IE.org); his scientific and educational activities have been recognized with numerous prestigious awards; is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineers (AIMBE); He founded LIMBS International, an influential non-profit organization that creates low-cost prosthetic devices and provides assistance to vulnerable citizens in developing countries.
