Students, young researchers, and professors of the Georgian Technical University will continue studying Italian for free in the 2025-2026 academic year as part of the third cycle of the international project “International Digital Educational Platform Dante.global Experimental Courses for GTU Students and Employees”.
The presentation of the international project was held at the Georgian Technical University within the framework of the 25th World Week of the Italian Language, under the theme “Italophonia - Language Beyond Borders”.
The event was organized by the Georgian Technical University and the Tbilisi Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society, with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Italy in Georgia. The financial support for the international project was provided by the Rome headquarters of the Dante Alighieri Society.
The event was attended by the President of the Supervisory Board of the Georgian Technical University, Professor Zurab Gudavadze, Vice-Rector, Professor Tamar Lominadze, Education Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Italy in Georgia, Silvana Borriello, students and professors who are beneficiaries of the international project, the President of the Tbilisi Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society, the Head of the GTU Italian Language and Culture Center, Professor Nino Tsertsvadze, as well as representatives of the Dante Committee and the Center.
The event was opened by the Vice-Rector of the Georgian Technical University. As Tamar Lominadze noted, the international project, which is being implemented in partnership with the Italian Embassy, within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed between the Georgian Technical University and the Dante Committee, will contribute significantly to the deepening of scientific, educational, cultural, and economic relations between Georgia and Italy.
“The experimental courses of the international digital educational platform Dante.global are an important project for the Georgian Technical University in terms of the development of international relations. It is gratifying that 90 students will continue studying the Italian language in the current academic year, most of whom are students and young researchers from various faculties of the university, who will become direct participants in intercultural cooperation. This project, with its results, significantly strengthens the scientific, educational, cultural, and economic ties between Georgia and Italy. On behalf of the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, we would like to thank the Embassy of Italy in Georgia, personally the Ambassador, His Excellency Massimiliano D’Antuono; we would like to thank the Rome headquarters of the Dante Alighieri Society, its President and Vice-President, as well as the Dante Tbilisi Committee for the great support that our university, its students and we have received in terms of integrating researchers into the Italian educational and scientific space, as well as deepening relations between the two countries,” Tamar Lominadze noted.
According to the President of the GTU Supervisory Board, Zurab Gudavadze, the 25th World Week of the Italian Language is celebrated all over the world with the slogan “Italophonia - Language Beyond Borders” and it is noteworthy that the Georgian Technical University is actively involved in this process. As Zurab Gudavadze noted, at the initiative of the Georgian Technical University, with the direct involvement of the “Dante” Committee and the active support of the governments and embassies of both countries, the hybrid didactic center – “Dante’s Office” has been successfully operating at the Georgian Technical University for the third year, where university students, scientists and employees take high-quality interdisciplinary courses free of charge.
The audience was welcomed by Silvana Borriello, Education Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Italy in Georgia. She emphasized that the joint initiative further strengthens the friendship between Georgia and Italy, especially in the field of education and science.
Nino Tsertsvadze, President of the Dante Tbilisi Committee and Head of the Italian Language and Culture Center at Tbilisi State University, spoke about the importance of the project, the opportunities for Georgian youth, and future prospects for cooperation.
“There is a novelty this year within the framework of the third cycle of the international project, the testing of which, in the form of an experiment, will be carried out for the first time at the Georgian Technical University. The novelty envisages direct cooperation with the leaders of the international digital educational platform Dante.global in the educational process and the integration of the posted content, which, through the synthesis of knowledge and intercultural aspects, offers students educational programs based on advanced technologies and innovative methods of learning the Italian language. In addition, it is important that within the framework of the project, teachers of the “Dante Tbilisi Committee” were provided with an innovative training course for improving their qualifications; As a result, innovative and modern teaching strategies will be implemented using Dante.global,” noted Nino Tsertsvadze.
One of the winners of the competition held within the framework of the international project, a student of the courses, a bachelor of the GTU International School of Design, Robert Gureshidze, delivered a speech at the event, sharing with the audience his future goals related to the study of the Italian language.
