A delegation of the Georgian Technical University, led by the President of the Supervisory Board, Professor Zurab Gudavadze, and Associate Professor Levan Osidze, paid a working visit to the cities of the People’s Republic of China - Dunhuang and Lanzhou, upon a special invitation.
In Dunhuang, the university representatives participated in an international scientific conference marking the 10th anniversary of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative, focusing on artificial intelligence in the modern era. In Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu Province, representatives of the Georgian Technical University held working meetings at the Lanzhou University of Technology and signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen academic and scientific cooperation.
The cooperation document was signed by the President of the Supervisory Board, Professor Zurab Gudavadze, on behalf of the Georgian Technical University, and by the Acting Rector, Vice President, Professor Zheng Shaoping, on behalf of the Lanzhou University of Technology.
As Zurab Gudavadze notes, signing a memorandum with Lanzhou University of Technology is one of the important stages, through which the Georgian Technical University aims to expand educational and research collaboration with Asian countries.
According to him, this process is based on the university’s vision to maximize the opportunities for integration into the educational and scientific spaces of America and Europe, on the one hand, and Asia, on the other.
“We are glad that the visit to China has developed into a deep and promising cooperation. Lanzhou, which was historically a key point on the Silk Road, is today one of the most important scientific, industrial, and transport centers in China. Lanzhou University of Technology, as a prestigious educational and research institution, is among the world’s leading scientific centers according to international ratings. In this regard, cooperation with it is important for our university, and the memorandum of understanding that we signed with this Chinese higher education institution envisages a multifaceted partnership: exchange of academic and research personnel, launching mobility and scholarship programs for students, implementation of joint research projects, joint use of intellectual resources, establishment of a Confucius Institute at our university, holding conferences, seminars, workshops and much more. All this will contribute to Georgian Technical University’s integration into Asian leading scientific networks. It also creates a solid foundation for a long-term and fruitful partnership between the universities of the two countries, helping our students receive international education, experience, and become more competitive.
During the visit to China, it was also noteworthy to participate in the international scientific conference held in Dunhuang, dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the “One Belt, One Road”. The main topic of the conference - the role of artificial intelligence in the modern era - is directly in line with the research on which scientists of the Georgian Technical University are intensively working. It is noteworthy that this month our university organized two international conferences on artificial intelligence. It is the great desire of the Georgian Technical University and its rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, to make participation in such international forums a constantly accessible experience for our students and young researchers.
It is noteworthy that another very interesting initiative was implemented through the efforts of the Faculty of Law and International Relations of the Georgian Technical University and Lanzhou University of Technology. This is the establishment of the “Research Center for Dialogue and Cooperation between Chinese and Georgian civilizations”. This center will become an interdisciplinary space for strengthening intercultural communication, science-based diplomacy, and educational dialogue.
The Georgian Technical University, with the support of the Rector, continues its integration into the international academic and research space, towards America and Europe on the one hand, and Asia on the other. We hope that our international relations with the world’s leading universities will deepen and the updated strategic directions will bring real benefits to the Georgian Technical University, our students, professors and teachers, and the Georgian scientific community in general,” notes the President of the GTU Supervisory Board.
