“September 27th is the hardest day that determined the future of our country and left us with a great responsibility to serve the unity of the homeland and strengthen statehood. The dedication of those who died in the Abkhaz war reminds us that statehood and freedom require great sacrifice. The academic community has a special mission - to continue research, analyze the historical processes that determined the fate of our country and, based on this knowledge, educate the future generation with the ideals of civic responsibility and service to the homeland. The path chosen by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze for the development of the country, the pursuit of peace and prosperity, is an important prerequisite for the unification of Georgia. It is with the joint efforts of science and the state that we are laying the foundation for the strengthening of national unity and to preserve the historical memory,” this is how the rector of the Georgian Technical University, academician David Gurgenidze, responds on the day of the fall of Sokhumi.
Vice-Rector, Professor Tamar Tsereteli, deans of faculties, professors and students paid tribute to the heroes who died for the territorial integrity of Georgia.
Within the framework of the 32nd anniversary of the tragic events that took place in Abkhazia on September 27th, 1993, university representatives laid wreaths at the Heroes’ Memorial and the busts of Georgian national heroes Zhiuli Shartava and Guram Gabiskiria.
“September 27th is a turning point in the modern history of Georgia, a symbol of tragic events and at the same time the basis for strengthening our national self-awareness. Each of us has an obligation to preserve historical memory for students and young people so that their professional and civic activities are always imbued with love for the homeland, truth and responsibility,” said Tamar Tsereteli.
