A group of scientists from the Georgian Technical University was awarded for another success at the Osaka Expo-Forum held in Osaka, Japan. The large-scale international exhibition-forum was held for six months, from April 13th to October 13th, and the Vladimir Chavchanidze Research Institute of Cybernetics of the Georgian Technical University represented our country.
The International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) gave the highest rating to the grant project “GE-2776: Improving the Thermoelectric Characteristics of Cobalt-Based Oxide Materials by Doping and Microstructure Modulation” submitted by the Georgian Technical University within the framework of the Georgian-Japanese scientific collaboration and held its presentation at the Osaka Expo in its own pavilion, along with three exceptionally successful projects funded by the Center.
According to the statement of the Vice-Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Professor Tamar Lominadze, the ISTC leadership gave the highest rating to the Georgian-Japanese research collaboration and, in agreement with the Japanese government, financed the visit of two Georgian scientists to participate in the Osaka Expo-Forum. According to the Vice-Rector, representatives of the GTU Institute of Cybernetics, Vakhtang Zhgamadze and Natia Margiani, participated in Osaka Expo 2025.
“The success of the Georgian Technical University and its group of scientists at the world-class exhibition-forum in Osaka is another vivid demonstration of the scientific potential of our country. The Georgian Technical University has worthily represented our country and, with its research capabilities, has gained well-deserved international recognition for the high quality of the grant project.
The grant project, which concerns the improvement of the thermoelectric characteristics of cobalt-based oxide materials, is directly related to the global challenges of modern energy efficiency, sustainable development, and innovative technologies. The fact that ISTC gave the highest rating to this project and presented it among four outstanding works is a clear confirmation that the work of the scientists of the Georgian Technical University fully complies with the highest modern scientific standards and emphasizes the growing role of the university not only in the national but also in the international research space.
It is important that this year’s Osaka Expo receives another recognition, which will increase the motivation of students and young researchers, grow the trust in Georgian scientists, and, what is so important, create a solid foundation for new research collaborations. The Georgian Technical University, under the leadership of the Rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, has a long-term strategic vision, the ability to conduct scientific research in accordance with international standards, and to integrate intellectual potential into the international space. I wish the winners success,” said Tamar Lominadze.

The foreign collaborator of the grant project “GE-2776: Improving the Thermoelectric Characteristics of Cobalt-Based Oxide Materials by Doping and Microstructure Modulation” is a well-known Japanese scientist, Vice President and Executive Director of Nagaoka University of Technology, Professor Masatoshi Takeda. As a sign of successful cooperation with Georgian scientists, last year the International Science and Technology Center financed Professor Takeda’s scientific visit to Georgia, to attend the conference - GTUnano2024 - held at the Georgian Technical University. The Japanese scientist made a presentation and, at the same time, was a member of the international scientific committee of this conference. The Japanese colleague also visited the GTU Vladimir Chavchanidze Institute of Cybernetics and the Energy Efficient Technologies Laboratory.
At the initiative of the ISTC office, the Energy Efficient Technologies Laboratory of the Institute of Cybernetics, together with Professor Takeda, prepared bilingual (English and Japanese) versions of the presentation to be presented at Osaka Expo 2025. According to the information released by ISTC, the presentation was particularly appreciated by the business and scientific circles attending the exhibition.
An award ceremony for successful scientific teams was also held at Osaka Expo 2025, in which high-ranking representatives of various international organizations participated. On behalf of the ISTC Executive Director, Georgian scientists were awarded with a tastefully executed “Certificate of Recognition”, which was presented at Osaka Expo 2025 by the First Deputy Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan to Natia Margiani, a representative of the group of scientists from the Georgian Technical University.
