Energy is a strategic direction of our country, the basis of national security and economic progress. It is a matter of pride that this extremely important sector is staffed entirely by graduates of the Faculty of Energy of the Georgian Technical University, who, with united efforts and love, professionalism and dedication, gradually formed the foundation of the national energy sector, cared and still care about its development, and using innovative technologies, create the future of Georgia’s energy sector.
The Faculty of Energy is one of the oldest in our country. It has been operating since the founding of the Georgian Technical University and has been continuously serving for more than a century the training of highly qualified scientists-researchers, and specialists, the introduction and development of new technologies in the field.
It is noteworthy that the faculty is staffed by distinguished scientists and highly qualified professor-teachers in the field of energy, whose many years of experience are an invaluable treasure for students. Together with young people, they are actively involved in scientific research, thereby making a significant contribution to the sustainable development of both energy and the country’s economy. The faculty is equipped with the latest type of educational and research laboratories and modernized learning spaces, allowing students to master modern technologies and practically carry out innovative research.
Today, special importance is attached to green energy, adherence to the principles of sustainable development, and the introduction of environmentally friendly, innovative technologies. In this regard, the Georgian Technical University actively carries out both educational and scientific activities. Our young people, along with traditional areas of energy, master the effective use of renewable energy sources and conduct innovative research based on modern energy efficiency standards, which undoubtedly ensures their competitiveness in the international space.
During its existence, the Faculty of Energy of the Georgian Technical University has trained about 30,000 specialists and researchers. Among them are world-renowned scientists and energy engineers who, with their multifaceted activities, have made and are still making a significant contribution to the development of the field. I believe that the future generation of energy specialists, who are mastering their profession at the Georgian Technical University, will worthily continue the great work that their predecessors began.

For your information, on September 10th, 1922, on the outskirts of Tbilisi, on the Mtkvari River, at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi, according to the project of engineer Ivane Melik-Pashaev, the foundation was laid for the construction of the Zemo Avchala Hydroelectric Power Plant (Zahesi), which was the first powerful hydroelectric power plant in the country at that time; and the Professional Day of Power Engineers was first celebrated in independent Georgia on September 10th, 2002.
