GTU Scientists Participated in the International Liquid Crystal Conference
A group of scientists from the Georgian Technical University, consisting of representatives of the Vladimir Chavchanidze Institute of Cybernetics: Gia Petriashvili, Ketevan Chubinidze, Andro Chanishvili and Nino Ponjavidze, with the support of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, participated in the International Liquid Crystal Conference - ECLC-2025.

The International Liquid Crystal Conference was held in Prague (Czech Republic) and was attended by more than 200 leading scientists from around the world. Only Georgian scientists from the post-Soviet space were invited to ECLC-2025.

A group of scientists from the Georgian Technical University presented reports at the international conference:

  • A hyperspectral imaging device based on a temperature-tunable cholesteric liquid crystal mirror;
  • Smart drug delivery systems responsive to internal and external stimuli based on liquid crystal microspheres;
  • Cone-shaped emission from a dye-doped cholesteric liquid crystal layer;
  • Reusable UVA/UVB radiation dosimeter based on a spiropyran-doped liquid crystal polymer film and laser emission from a large area of a cholesteric liquid crystal layer.

Gia Petriashvili, Chief Researcher at the Vladimer Chavchanidze Institute of Cybernetics at the Georgian Technical University, said that reports by Georgian scientists generated great interest among conference participants.

Discussions and scientific discussions were held on the given issues. A large part of the conference participants expressed their desire and interest in cooperating with the Georgian Technical University and implementing joint international projects, including within the framework of Horizon Europe and NATO.

“Participating in the ECLC-2025 conference was an important professional and scientific experience for us, as it is one of the most important international forums in the field of liquid crystal materials research, which brings together leading scientists from Europe and the world. The fact that we were the only ones from the post-Soviet space invited, and from Georgia itself, only scientists from the Georgian Technical University participated, testifies to the increased trust and interest in our country and our university in particular, which is undoubtedly due to the correct policy of the university leadership, directly the rector, Academician David Gurgenidze. We believe that such platforms not only contribute to the introduction of our research and the deepening of international cooperation, but also serve to demonstrate the scientific potential existing in Georgia. The interest expressed in the results presented at the conference once again confirms that Georgian science has a voice in the modern scientific space,” says Gia Petriashvili.
