Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia Zviad Gabisonia; Rector of the Georgian Technical University and Chairperson of the Standing Conference of Rectors of Higher Educational Institutions of Georgia, Academician David Gurgenidze; along with member rectors of the Standing Conference, as well as university academic staff and students, paid tribute to the heroes of the August War and laid a wreath at the memorial at the Mukhatgverdi Brothers' Cemetery.
“Seventeen years after the August War, on this particularly difficult historical day, we remember those individuals who, through their self-sacrifice, proved that devotion to one’s homeland is the highest form of civic responsibility, stemming from a deep national consciousness.
The heroes of the August War defended the sovereignty and dignity of our country at the cost of their lives their names are immortal!
Today, the state protects national security through values and a heightened sense of civic awareness, in which the education and science system has a special role.
Georgian Technical University honors those who gave their lives to defend their native land. They live on in our work, in our values, in the education and consciousness we pass on to students. They are the national backbone of our country—an example of how one should love their homeland. Glory to the heroes!” - said David Gurgenidze, Rector of Georgian Technical University.
The Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia emphasized the selflessness of the heroes of the August War, who gave their lives for their homeland without hesitation. According to Zviad Gabisonia, the Georgian soldier is an example of national consciousness and civic responsibility.
“The graves of the heroes remind us that Georgia’s freedom stands on their sacrifice. Their heroism is the foundation of our statehood.
The memory of the heroes obliges us to value peace and never forget that it was they who defended the country’s independence by offering their lives out of love for the homeland,” - stated Zviad Gabisonia.
