“Practice is now a core part of education, bringing knowledge and experience together. It has become a core component of the learning process, providing a synthesis of knowledge and experience. In this regard, the successful participation of student teams from the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of the Georgian Technical University in Robo Battle 2025 reflects the university’s long-term strategic vision, the basis of which is the integration of STEM education into the technological ecosystem and support for students”, said Professor Taliko Zhvania, Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of the Georgian Technical University.
Student teams from the GTU Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems achieved notable results at Robo Battle 2025, a major event at Tbilisi Digital Fest, on location Radio City | District 4. Organized by the Georgian Robotics Association (GRA). The competition hosted teams of 92 combat robots (315 participants) and 49 sumo robots (132 participants).
According to the Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, the Georgian Technical University is actively working to integrate additional aspects into the educational process, such as technological competitions, hackathons, robotics, and programming tournaments.
As Professor Taliko Zhvania stated, the university entered a total of five robots at Robo Battle 2025: one robot in the 0.5-1.5 kilogram weight category and four robots in the 1.5-5 kilogram weight category.
First place was awarded to the Foxhound team, composed of Giorgi Shakiashvili, Salome Makharadze, Nikoloz Merabishvili and
Aleksi Mamniashvili. Second place went to the Thrasher team, consisting of Gocha Zedginidze, Otari Chincharashvili, Nikoloz Elizbarashvili, and Mariami Maisuradze.
“Our students’ victory at Robo Battle 2025 once again confirms that we are moving in the right direction, deepening technical knowledge, gaining practical experience, and developing creative skills remain the faculty’s top priorities. Events like this spark interest in technology among young people, providing a platform for them to test their abilities and strengthen their teamwork skills. Georgian Technical University is always ready to support students as they implement innovative ideas and will continue to provide the necessary resources for their success. I would especially like to highlight that both Georgian Technical University and, in particular, the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems are committed to ensuring students not only acquire theoretical knowledge but also gain hands-on experience, work on real projects, and participate in innovative experiments and international competitions. We are especially proud that at Robo Battle 2025, our student teams had the opportunity to demonstrate their creative potential, which reflects the ongoing progress at the faculty and the high quality of our teaching and research activities. The GTU will continue to support students in similar initiatives in the future, whether by improving laboratory infrastructure or funding innovative projects,” said Taliko Zhvania.
