The Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, on behalf of the GTU administration, congratulates the participants of the open international competition for academic positions at the Georgian Technical University on obtaining the status of affiliated professor at the university, as per the competition results.
As noted in the address, Academician David Gurgenidze thanks scientists, researchers, and teachers, including foreign colleagues, for their involvement in the competition and academic responsibility, and wishes them success in their future endeavors.
World-renowned scientists also participated in the open international competition for academic positions at the Georgian Technical University.
According to the results of the competition:
- At the GTU Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, Department of Engineering Physics, lectures on nuclear and elementary particle physics, modern experimental methods of physics and data acquisition and analysis will be given by famous physicists: one of the leaders of the CMS Collaboration of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Professor Tiziano Camporesi and Professor of the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) of Japan, COMET Experiment Manager, Advisor to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Japan Satoshi Mihara;
- A course of lectures will be given to students of the GTU Faculty of Construction by Professor and former rector of the Białystok University of Technology (Poland), famous scientist and engineer Leh Dennis;
- Colin Rigby, Director of Entrepreneurship at Keele University (UK) Business School, will deliver lectures at the Department of Transport and Industrial Management at the GTU Faculty of Transport Systems and Mechanical Engineering. He will develop a Master’s Program in “Entrepreneurship Management” while enhancing the quality of internationalization for existing academic programs and creating new high-level educational programs.
The Rector of the Georgian Technical University emphasizes the importance of the professional competence of the competition participants in the development of the university, especially in the context where the quality of higher education, strengthening of research potential, and integration into the international academic space are strategic priorities for the higher school.
According to the Rector, it is precisely the involvement of academic staff at this level that determines the increase in the competitiveness of the university both in the local and global educational space.

It is encouraging to note that, for the first time in the history of independent Georgia, significant university reforms have begun at the initiative of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, with the active involvement of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth, led by Minister Givi Mikanadze. This political and strategic step underscores the vital role of the higher education system in the intellectual, economic, and socio-cultural advancement of the country. A special government commission has been formed to implement the reform, with the primary goal of systematically strengthening universities and enhancing the quality of teaching and research. Notably, this reform aims to create a supportive educational environment, providing students, researchers, and professors with an innovative, flexible, and development-oriented system based on international best practices. Additionally, it will offer our young people the opportunity to receive European-quality higher education within their own country.

An open international competition for the selection of academic staff of the Georgian Technical University was announced on June 9 of this year. The Academic Council adopted a resolution on the creation of competition commissions and their secretariats on June 8.
According to the resolution #01-05-17/07 of the joint meeting of the Academic Council and the Representative Council (Senate) of the University on June 30, 2021, according to Article 2 of the Rules for the Recruitment of Academic Staff: 1. Academic positions are filled only through an open competition, which must comply with the principles of transparency, equality and fair competition. 2. Academic staff of the University are selected by a competition commission.
