“The Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems is a platform focused on future technologies, which forms a generation prepared for technological challenges, critical thinking, and innovation-oriented. For a society that aims to be competitive and technologically advanced, studying information technologies and management systems is essential to driving progress. The Georgian Technical University has been a source of highly qualified personnel in this field for 72 years. By the 2025/2026 academic year, we will receive the first intake of the English-language Bachelor’s Program in Computer Engineering. The Faculty implements an English-language ABET-accredited program in Biomedical Engineering, and in parallel, we have prepared five programs for ABET accreditation: Biomedical Engineering (Georgian), Computer Science (English and Georgian), and Computer Engineering (English and Georgian). Also, within the framework of the CIF project, a joint English-language master’s program in cybersecurity is being prepared together with a British educational university, - said the Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of the Georgian Technical University, Professor Taliko Zhvania, while summing up the 2024/2025 academic year.
At the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, laboratories for IoT systems and remote sensing were created within the framework of the grant project, and with the initiative and support of Rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, 3 computer laboratories were renovated and equipped with the latest technology.
With the support of the Graduate Fund, the auditorium and laboratory fund of the Department of Biomedical Engineering was completely renovated.
According to the Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of the Georgian Technical University, the faculty will have its first graduates in the Georgian-language Bachelor’s program in Computer Engineering in the 2024/2025 academic year. Professor Taliko Zhvania once again congratulates the students of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, judoka Zaur Dvalashvili, Georgian champion, silver medalist at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, and also the silver medalist at the World University Games, on another success, and wishes the Georgian para-armwrestling team member Lasha Maisuradze the European Championship and victories.
“The 2024/2025 academic year has been very productive for our faculty. We organized four international conferences: The student scientific-practical conference titled “ICT in Life 2024”, held in collaboration with the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems and the Dresden University of Applied Sciences, which included participation from German students. The international scientific practical conference “Modern Challenges and Achievements in Information and Communication Technologies – 2024”, was organized by the Dresden University of Applied Sciences and Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. The seventh international conference focused on nanotechnologies, called “Nano 2024”. The faculty also supported the Black Sea International Scientific Conference on “Communication and Networks.” This conference was mainly organized by members of the world’s largest technical professional organization, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), along with our faculty professors. Additionally, we held a scientific forum titled “Technology Challenges and Progress Prospects - 2025.” To support our students, we continue to run an internship program that provides both workshop and internship opportunities. The faculty is also implementing projects like “Student for Student” and “Professor for Professor”. A cybersports club was formed. About 200 students participated in the 89th International Student Conference. Our graduates were among the 30 best young people selected by Forbes. Our graduate Lado Bitsadze became one of the winners of this year’s Innovate for Impact at the AI for Good Summit in Geneva for the best use of artificial intelligence. Our professors are involved in the European Union program ERASMUS+ project – “Implementation of Micro-Certification in the Higher Education Systems of Georgia and Armenia: Lighthouse of the South Caucasus” (Micro-GEAR), within the framework of the project, three-day meetings were held in Armenia and Georgia this year. We are meeting the new academic year with a new attitude, I wish success to students and colleagues”, says the Dean.
In the 2024/2025 academic year, several projects were completed or are underway with the involvement of students and professors of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, including:
- Application of the potential method in mixed and crack-type dynamics problems for homogeneous, inhomogeneous, and composite elastic structures;
- Identification of a moving object in real time;
- Development of a boron-containing complex ligature for multifunctional alloys based on steelmaking waste using high-temperature synthesis and metallurgy methods;
- Development of an effective method for determining the optical spectra of viral particles.
