Local Labor Market Survey Conducted at GTU
A large-scale labor market survey was conducted at the Georgian Technical University, at the initiative of the Vocational Skills Agency and with the active participation of the university’s partner organizations, aimed at analyzing employers’ requirements, finding important information for strategic development, and increasing the effectiveness of vocational training.

Ten organizations of various profiles, including Minimart, RMG Auramine, Novator Technological Systems, Autotechno, Branch Station Tbilisi, Telasi, Edelweiss, Georgian Furniture Cluster, Color Pack, and Unistyle, participated in the survey.

According to Associate Professor Nato Katamadze, Head of the Career Development Department of the GTU Learning Process Management Service, surveys are a means of identifying market requirements, which creates the basis for long-term cooperation and has a positive impact on both the quality of education and employment rates.

“Conducting research is crucial in several areas. First of all, research helps educational institutions, in this case, the Georgian Technical University, to align professional programs with the labor market. Research is important for business. Companies get the opportunity to present their requirements and help future staff in their professional development. For students, research allows them to understand better what skills and competencies are in demand in the labor market and plan their career development accordingly."

The labor market survey conducted by the Vocational Skills Agency at the Georgian Technical University aimed to provide an in-depth analysis of the needs of the current economic environment, which is crucial for ensuring an effective connection between the education system and the labor market. The main objectives of the survey included identifying challenges related to the level of qualification of the workforce, identifying the skills and competencies required by employers for employment, as well as determining the needs for the content and structural renewal of vocational education programs.

The focus groups conducted within the framework of the study were attended by organizations such as: Minimart, RMG Auramine, Novator Technological Systems, Autotechno, Branch Station Tbilisi, Telasi, Edelweiss, Georgian Furniture Cluster, Color Pack, and Unistyle, whose involvement allowed us to collect versatile, sector-specific analytical information, which is important for a better understanding of labor needs. In the long term, research conducted in such a format creates an information base, based on which it is possible to develop professional programs so that their content is maximally consistent with the dynamics of the labor market, which in turn increases the employment chances of graduates and the efficiency of the business sector,” states Nato Katamadze.
