“The faculty provides students with a unique learning environment that combines long-standing traditions with future-oriented innovations. We cultivate future leaders, scientists, and professionals, and together laying the groundwork for a sustainable, developed, and independent Georgia! In the 2024-2025 academic year, 56 students graduated from the Bachelor’s program, 31 from the Master’s program, and 2 from the Doctoral program. I wish them all the best in their future endeavors,” stated Professor Teimuraz Kunchulia, Dean of the Faculty of Mining and Geology, while summarizing the achievements of the 2024-2025 academic year.
During this academic year, the faculty implemented four major projects aimed at establishing new mining and extractive enterprises in the country. Additionally, the Mining and Geological Center acquired new mining and geological software programs for training courses offered for both students and academic staff. With the support of the company “RMG” a “Virtual Modeling and Simulation Laboratory” was set up, and the “Occupational Safety” training laboratories were renovated. Furthermore, in the 2024-2025 academic year, scientists from the Faculty of Mining and Geology Scientists have received one grant project.
“Mining and geological fields are integral to Georgia’s history, and the country’s economic development has always been closely linked to the effective use of its underground and surface resources. Today, as Georgia works toward energy independence and explores options for a green transition and clean technologies, mining and geological sciences have taken on a renewed mission. Our faculty stands as the country’s only academic platform in this field, not only meeting modern requirements but also establishing its standards. Here, we are laying the groundwork for professionals who will responsibly and sustainably develop Georgia’s natural wealth. The Mining and Geology Faculty provides students with a unique learning environment that blends long-standing traditions with innovative approaches focused on the future. On behalf of the faculty, we would like to express our gratitude to the rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, and our partner, “RMG” for their support,” says Professor Teimuraz Kunchulia.
For information: in 1922, the Council of Professors at Tbilisi University decided to establish the Polytechnic Faculty. Initially, this faculty comprised three departments: Construction, Mechanical, and Mining. The Mining Department offered specialties in Mining Operations, Metallurgy, and Chemical Technology. On October 1, 1928, the Georgian government officially opened the Georgian State Polytechnic Institute, which was formed from the Polytechnic Faculty of Tbilisi University. At its inception, the institute included the following faculties: Construction, Mechanical, Mining, and Chemical. Today, the Mining and Geological Faculty aims to train specialists who possess competencies that meet modern standards and are competitive in the international labor market, across all three levels of higher education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees.
