“A practical teaching method that involves acquiring knowledge and developing professional skills in a real working environment is effective for students in many ways. Seminars of this format help to transfer theoretical knowledge into practice, strengthen students’ professional self-confidence and motivation, provide them with contact with professionals working in the industry, broaden their understanding of the real requirements and standards of the tourism and hospitality sector, and prepare students for future employment with more practical and competitive skills,” says Associate Professor Nato Katamadze, Head of the Career Development Department of the Georgian Technical University Learning Process Management Service.

As part of their lecture course, students from the GTU Sustainable Mountain Development, Sustainable Mountain Tourism, and Hospitality Management majors held a practical seminar at the Tbilisi Marriott Hotel, which included both a cognitive orientation and a tour of the hotel’s interior, as well as information on available vacancies.

According to the Head of the Career Development Department of the GTU Educational Process Management Service, at a seminar held at the Tbilisi Marriott Hotel, students had the opportunity to learn about international brand standards, service culture, and management processes directly in the space where this practice is carried out daily.

Such an approach to teaching is important for the development of professional competencies and for the advancement of the Georgian tourism sector, as it increases the quality of future personnel and their sense of responsibility towards the sector.

“It is important for us to create a diverse space where employers and students can connect. To achieve this, we visited the hotels ‘Tbilisi Marriott”, “Courtyard Marriott”, and “Moxy Tbilisi”, all part of the Tbilisi Marriott hotel chain. We extend our gratitude to Mrs. Ketevan Tsereteli, the Training and Development Manager, for the insightful tour. During the visit, the students learned about the workings of the hotels, explored the internal and external spaces, and received information about current job openings. This was an excellent opportunity for them to gain insights into the industry and explore potential employment options. We noticed a strong interest from two of our students, which is very encouraging. We hope that their applications will lead to positive outcomes,” said Nato Katamadze.
