GTU Students Met with Representatives of the ComCom Media Academy
Students interested in journalism at the Georgian Technical University met with representatives of the Media School of the Communications Commission (ComCom) Media Academy. They learned about the opportunities for fully mastering the profession of a journalist, starting a career in journalism, and developing their careers.

The information meeting, organized by the Career Development Department of the University’s Academic Process Management Service and the ComCom Media Academy, was attended by students from the Faculty of Engineering Economics, Media Technologies, and Social Sciences, as well as students from various faculties interested in journalism, the Head of the GTU Career Development Department, Associate Professor Nato Katamadze, and professors.

At the meeting, ComCom Media Academy Head Shorena Shaverdashvili and Learning Process Management Manager Ana Giorbelidze spoke to the youth about the Media School Studio’s intensive 4-month practical course, which, to raise the media standard in the country offers a unique opportunity to gain knowledge and experience to those interested in journalism, completely free of charge. According to them, the course will help young people start a career in journalism in the future. It includes both theoretical training and practical work. After completing the course, graduates will be able to create high-quality media products independently.

According to Shorena Shaverdashvili, within the framework of the course, students will study the preparation of radio and television news programs, stories, interviews, and podcasts, the preparation and broadcasting of news for radio, television, and online platforms, master the art of camera-man ship, speech and television skills, as well as audio and television editing, sound direction, the preparation, production, and broadcasting of non-news television stories and programs for radio and television, and study the creation, formatting, production and social media journalism of a television network.

According to her, all subjects at the media school are taught by journalism professionals, and the studio is equipped with all the necessary equipment and technology, which will give the course students practical experience working in a real newsroom.

As the Head of the Career Development Department of the GTU Academic Process Management Service, Associate Professor Nato Katamadze notes, it is important for the Georgian Technical University to provide students with a wide choice in terms of employment.

“In order to provide students with a wide choice in terms of employment, the Career Development Department, with the support of the university administration, organizes large-scale employment forums, regularly organizes individual meetings with private and state organizations, industries, thereby facilitating the process of finding the desired vacancy for job-seeking students.

The meeting with the representatives of the ComCom Media Academy serves this very purpose. The Media Academy offers a 4-month intensive course to students interested in journalism. We believe that a student of any faculty of the Georgian Technical University, in parallel with their main profession, can master new knowledge and skills and thus acquire a second profession, that of a journalist. This is a good opportunity for the development of sectoral journalism, for which the demand is growing in our country,” states Nato Katamadze.

For information, those wishing to enroll in the journalism course of the ComCom Media School must pass a selection competition. The best candidates will be selected through written tests and oral interviews. The Media Academy will award the relevant certificates to successful graduates and will provide recommendations to potential employers.
