A Unique Intellectual Sparring Session Was Held at GTU on the Dialogue Between the Human Mind and AI Vision
At the Georgian Technical University, with the support of Rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, a unique intellectual sparring session was held for the first time in the country’s scientific space, dedicated to the dialogue between the human mind and emotional intuition, as well as the algorithmic vision of artificial intelligence.

The topic of the scientific sparring session was the parallel interpretations of the collection of philosophical essays by writer Kakha Devdariani – “The Night Typist”, in the dialogue between humans and artificial intelligence.

The scientific event, initiated by the Institute for Research on Public Governance Problems of the GTU Faculty of Business Technologies and its head, Professor Mariam Tsatsanashvili, was held with the participation of students of the Public Governance Doctoral Program of the same faculty, as well as doctoral students of the Faculty of Informatics and Management Systems, and under the leadership of the Vice-Rector, Professor Tamar Lominadze.

Writer Kakha Devdariani, as well as scientific and academic circles of the Georgian Technical University, students, and guests, participated in the intellectual sparring.

Vice-Rector, Professor Tamar Lominadze, and Professor Mariam Tsatsanashvili, Head of the Institute for Research on Public Governance Problems of the GTU Faculty of Business Technologies, moderated the event.

During the intellectual sparring, the organizers and students, based on the collection of philosophical essays by writer Kakha Devdariani, “The Night Typist,” presented a hypothesis about the philosophical meaning and offered the audience two alternative interpretations. One of which was an algorithmic version generated by artificial intelligence, and the other was formulated by a GTU doctoral student.

The sparring participants were allowed to individually identify and secretly, through a QR code, record their opinion on which interpretation belonged to a person and which to artificial intelligence, as well as to evaluate which interpretation had a deeper understanding of the author’s intention.

The experiment presented at the intellectual sparring aroused great interest among the audience, and the analysis of the recorded positions turned out to be unexpected.

As Vice-Rector Professor Tamar Lominadze noted, the Georgian Technical University, like the world’s leading universities, works and conducts research in the direction of how the rapid development of technologies, including artificial intelligence, and their invasion into everyday life can benefit society.

According to Tamar Lominadze, the goal of a specific intellectual sparring session is to publicly observe how artificial intelligence experiences the emotional dimension of a person, discuss this issue, and draw appropriate conclusions.

“This is the second intellectual sparring event in a row, held with the support of the rector, academician David Gurgenidze. The initiative to create a scientific sparring format belongs to the Institute for Research on Public Governance Problems and its head, Professor Mariam Tsatsanashvili. The fact that the sparring has aroused such great interest is not accidental. It concerns an important issue such as making artificial intelligence a friend and its behavior as our ally. The process involves sharing opinions among the people for whom artificial intelligence has already become an everyday tool - this applies to both teachers and researchers, as well as students. Not only the Georgian Technical University but also the world’s leading universities research the global challenge, to what extent it is possible for society to benefit from the rapid development of technologies, including artificial intelligence, and their invasion into everyday life. Georgian Technical University is the first in the higher educational and scientific space of our country, where the format of scientific sparring was introduced in the process of observing and researching the development of artificial intelligence. The goal of this specific event is to observe how artificial intelligence experiences the emotional dimension of a person, whether it can feel an artistic-philosophical text, whether it is capable of critical thinking, thinking about life problems, or only superficially transforming literary texts. Our goal is to determine what can be common between the thinking and approaches of humans and artificial intelligence, and what conclusions can we draw as a result of the judgment?” noted Tamar Lominadze.

According to Professor Mariam Tsatsanashvili, the intellectual sparring format is a space for collaboration and parallel thinking, where, this time, writer Kakha Devdariani’s collection of philosophical essays – “The Night Typist” - became the subject of a joint interpretation between humans and OpenAI.

“This is a unique intellectual sparring dedicated to the dialogue between the human mind and emotional intuition, as well as the algorithmic vision of artificial intelligence. It is gratifying that our students are actively involved in the intellectual sparring. This is not a competition - this is a space for cooperation and parallel thinking, where we turned the philosophical work of the writer Kakha Devdariani into a subject of joint interpretation by humans and artificial intelligence. A hypothesis about the philosophical meaning of the text was presented at the sparring – “The search for spiritual balance.” Our experiment is not just a comparison but a simultaneous representation of content in two different systems - human and algorithm. This is an experiment in which writing has a dialogue with an algorithm, human emotion with code, tradition with innovation,” said Mariam Tsatsanashvili.

As part of the intellectual sparring, the organizers also presented the audience with “The Night Typist,” brought to life in a multimedia format by artificial intelligence, where the author’s text was transformed into music and the story and emotion into painting.
