The international conference was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Law and International Relations of the GTU, Associate Professor Ivane (Mamuka) Giorgadze. He thanked Georgian and foreign researchers for participating in the conference.

As the Dean noted, in connection with the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as the state religion in Georgia in 2026, under the leadership of the country’s scientists and cultural figures, with the support of the Patriarchate of Georgia and the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, a three-year cultural and educational program – “Georgian Identity” was developed, which was launched in May 2024.

According to Ivane Giorgadze, the program’s goals are to remind society, and especially the youth, of the most important stages of Georgian history that determined the unique culture and national values of the Georgian state.

“The international scientific conference, which is being held within the framework of the cultural and educational program – “Georgian Identity” at the initiative of the Intellectual Property Laboratory of our faculty and its head, Professor Givi Lobzhanidze, is dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the beheading of Paata Saakadze and the legal and political significance of the implementation of the idea of an independent and united Georgia. It is gratifying that not only active educational and research processes are underway at the Georgian Technical University, but also several programs are implemented for young people to learn about the national, historical, and cultural values of the Georgian state, to understand the most important stages and moments of Georgian history that have determined national identity. We need to actualize those topics that are especially important for the country. It is noteworthy that the conference is dedicated to the son of Giorgi Saakadze, a young man who sacrificed himself for his homeland with full awareness 400 years ago. He is a great historical figure and a significant public figure. Our distinguished researchers are participating in the conference, with their scientific reports, are trying to shed light on the controversial issues of important historical moments, to give the most accurate assessment of historical events and personalities, and in addition, to awaken and make society, especially the youth, think and remind us of how difficult a path Georgia has traveled from the past to the present and what our national values are based on. On behalf of the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, I wish success to the international conference and the participating Georgian and foreign researchers. I hope we will evaluate many interesting facts and events and discuss the legal and political significance of implementing the idea of a united Georgia,” noted Ivane Giorgadze.
