The Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, met with the Vice President for International Relations of the University of Rennes (France), Sébastien Le Picard, and discussed the possibilities of future collaboration between the two universities in the scientific and educational fields.
The meeting of the rector with the vice-president of one of the leading French universities, who is on a working visit to Georgia, was attended by the President of the Supervisory Board of GTU, Professor Zurab Gudavadze, Vice-Rectors - Tamar Tsereteli and Tamar Lominadze, Head of the GTU International Relations Office, Tea Murvanidze, Advisor to the Rector Konstantine Basilashvili, and representative of the French-Georgian University Nato Chuchulashvili.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the possibilities of multilateral cooperation in the scientific and educational sphere. As Rector David Gurgenidze stated, the Georgian Technical University has a long-standing, fruitful partnership with French universities, which includes student and scientific and academic staff exchange programs, joint research, and the format of scientific conferences.
According to the rector, the partnership is also expanding annually with the University of Rennes 1, Montpellier Soupagro, with which the Georgian Technical University, within the framework of joint educational projects, coordinates the implementation of Bachelor’s Degree in Food Technology and Master’s Degree in Oenology and Viticulture double-degree programs.
David Gurgenidze spoke about the fruitful partnership with the French-Georgian University, which was established with the multilateral support of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia and the Embassy of France in Georgia.
In addition, the Rector introduced the Vice-President of the University of Rennes to the results of the Georgian Technical University’s participation in international scientific projects and global experiments, as well as partnerships with leading universities and scientific centers in Europe, America, and Asia.
“Georgian Technical University has close scientific and educational collaboration with the world’s leading universities and organizations. Our groups of scientists, young researchers, students, and scientific and research institutes are actively involved in global scientific experiments with major international research organizations as: CERN in Switzerland, KEK and J-Parc in Japan, FERMILAB in the USA, etc. The university’s infrastructure is constantly being improved. Almost all faculties have modern, state-of-the-art educational, scientific, and expert laboratories, where our students, with professors and teachers, conduct research. Among them is the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems laboratory complex, which is unique in the South Caucasus region. Here it is possible to conduct more than 700 laboratory, scientific, and expert research simultaneously, including with CERN. Georgian Technical University expresses its readiness to deepen collaboration with the University of Rennes, develop joint research projects, plan scientific conferences, and activate exchange programs, both for our successful students and scientific and academic staff,” noted David Gurgenidze.
Vice-President of the University of Rennes, Sébastien Le Picard, thanked Academician David Gurgenidze and the Georgian Technical University for their willingness to cooperate, on behalf of the President of the University of Rennes. As he noted, collaboration with the Georgian Technical University will be a prerequisite for mutual success.
“The University of Rennes is interested in deepening educational and scientific processes with the Georgian Technical University, implementing joint research and projects, as well as activating the mobility of students, researchers, and academic staff, which will allow the two universities to lay the foundation for a solid partnership collaboration,” said Sébastien Le Picard.
