The event, which was attended by representatives of the administration of the Georgian Technical University and academicians of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, professors, researchers, leading specialists in engineering and technology, experts and students, was opened by the Rector, Academician David Gurgenidze.

As the rector noted, Dr. Merab Adeishvili’s monograph is in many ways interesting and important for readers interested in engineering. Especially, for the new generation, considering that the author, through a deep analysis of the development of unified engineering education, science, and industry, conveys the trends in the creation and development of modern basic infrastructure in Georgia, the history of the establishment of the first higher education institution of the engineering-technological direction since the beginning of the 20th century, the achievements of the Georgian scientific-engineering school. He describes the unique buildings and structures created by Georgian engineers who graduated from Technical University and analyzes the contribution of engineers-scientists and leading specialists in engineering fields working at the university to the engineering industries development and the country’s construction.

According to David Gurgenidze, the monograph presentation at the author’s request, took place at the Georgian Technical University, the alma mater of which Dr. Merab Adeishvili is a graduate and where, for years, he has been sharing his knowledge and experience with the youth.

“The Georgian Technical University has always been and still is the center of Georgian engineering hearth and the forge of leading engineering personnel, whose hands have built and are building Georgia. It is within the university walls where the outstanding mind is formed, which is the basis for scientific and technological progress and the creation and development of engineering industries. One of the figures in this great work is the outstanding graduate of our university, Merab Adeishvili - a scientist, teacher, and worthy successor of our engineering heritage. It is noteworthy that the presentation of his new monograph “Development of Engineering Fields in Georgia” was held at his native university - here, where Merab Adeishvili’s professional path began and where, over the years, he has been sharing his knowledge and experience with future generations.

The presented monograph is an epic journey through the development of Georgian engineering history and reflects the dynamics of an entire century: the establishment of the first Georgian Higher Engineering School, technical and technological achievements, victories, and the tireless work that created the foundation for our country’s progress, through the hands of scientists, professors, and graduates of the Georgian Technical University. This work is dedicated to these talented and dedicated engineers, scientists, and thinkers who left an indelible mark on engineering development.

The monograph begins with the words of the great Niko Nikoladze: “The revival of the country requires applied science and engineering personnel,” and these words follow the work as a leitmotif. The first chapter - “A Ruthless Man of Business” - is dedicated to Niko Nikoladze, who, with his education and practical vision, laid the foundation for the training of engineers and the development of engineering fields and industries in Georgia.

We can boldly state that the 600-page monograph is an encyclopedic publication that combines historical analysis, memoirs, essays, and a deep professional vision. It is a valuable acquisition not only for Georgian engineering but also for the collective memory of our society. It tells us how education, science, and engineering were combined for our country’s development. We believe that the history of Georgian engineering, which is also the history of the Georgian Technical University, should be familiarized with by our students, young researchers, and society. We wish the author of this excellent book success and thank him for the opportunity to share the history of Georgian engineering with future generations,” noted David Gurgenidze.

The monograph, accompanied by visual material, was presented by the author. Merab Adeishvili thanked the rector, academician David Gurgenidze, the book reviewers - GTU scientists and researchers, and those who assisted him with advice during the work.

As Merab Adeishvili noted, the monograph, which consists of 9 chapters and appendices, includes about 1,700 illustrative materials, including rare photographs and documentary materials kept in the National Archives of Georgia and the National Library of the Parliament of Georgia.

The author focused on the key stages of engineering development, spoke about the establishment of the Georgian Polytechnic Faculty, Institute, and later the Georgian Technical University as a large engineering educational and scientific association, reviewed the trends in engineering education, engineering, and scientific achievements, as well as the stages of the formation of industries and their development.

The importance of the monograph was discussed by the Vice-President of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, Academician Ramaz Khurodze, the Academician of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, Major General Elgudja Medzmariashvili, the Vice-Rector of GTU, Professor Tamar Lominadze, the university’s scientists and researchers, as well as specialists in engineering and guests.

Merab Adeishvili’s monograph “Development of Engineering Fields in Georgia - Education, Science, Construction” will interest a wide range of readers, in addition to specialists in the field. It will also be important for students of construction and other technical and technological faculties, as an additional textbook in the history of engineering.
