Professors Paata Kervalishvili and Tamar Berberashvili of the Department of Engineering Physics of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of the Georgian Technical University held lectures and seminars at the Institute of Physical Chemistry (ECP) and the Institute of Molecular Sciences (ISMO) of Paris-Saclay University in France, within the framework of the European Union program ERASMUS+.

The lectures’ topics were related to the demonstration of Georgian scientists' recognized achievements and their sharing in the field of laser physics and technologies, as well as the development of laser-spectroscopic methods for vibrational spectroscopy of nanobiosystems.

As Professor Paata Kervalishvili of the GTU Department of Engineering Physics notes, the lecture seminars aroused great interest among researchers from the Paris-Saclay Institutes of Physical Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, and discussions were held, and several opinions were expressed, which is another confirmation of the recognition of the Georgian Technical University scientific potential.

“Together with Professor Tamar Berberashvili, we delivered lectures to French colleagues on the following topics: molecular vibration and oscillation, resonance and energy transfer, vibrational spectroscopy, nuclear-resonance vibrational spectroscopy, and creation of targets for nuclear synthesis by laser method. In addition, we held four seminars on the role and future of vibrational spectroscopy and touched upon such topics as: spectroscopy of nanosystems, methods of resonance research of nanoparticles of various origins, computational methods of studying vibrational processes in nanosystems, and quantum methods of resonance spectroscopy. These studies aroused great interest among scientists from ECP and ISMO.

It is noteworthy that in parallel with the lecture seminars, we met and talked about the scientific and educational activities of the Georgian Technical University with the President of Paris-Saclay University, Professor Camille Gallup, and the Vice-President for Science, Professor Mehran Mostafawi, and introduced the results of our new scientific work. The President and Vice-President of Paris-Saclay expressed their desire to establish a joint scientific laboratory in cooperation with the Georgian Technical University, which would conduct research in the field of laser physics and spectroscopy and would be reflected in green energy, biomedicine, and the development of computer systems.

As the Director of the Paris-Saclay Institute of Molecular Sciences, Professor Thomas Pinault, and the scientists of the institute noted during the meetings, in partnership with the Georgian Technical University, it is possible to establish a state-of-the-art research laboratory based on ISMO, which with the activities of the Georgian-French joint group of the Institute of Physical Chemistry, will further strengthen Georgian-French cooperation in the development of the latest scientific and innovative directions. It is gratifying that the scientific research conducted at the Georgian Technical University is increasingly recognized in the international space,” says Professor Kervalishvili.

According to Professor Tamar Berberashvili, during the working visit to Paris-Saclay University, meetings were held with well-known scientists, including one of the active participants in the scientific projects of the Georgian Technical University, Professor Pedro de Oliveira-Alameda, as well as Professor Christophe Humbert; GTU scientists were introduced to the new experiments and results of recently completed research conducted at the Institutes of Molecular Science and Physical Chemistry of the Paris-Saclay University.

During the visit, professors of the Department of Engineering Physics, with their French colleagues, also discussed the possibilities of expanding scientific-academic collaboration between the Georgian Technical University and Paris-Saclay University and effective support for young Georgian and French researchers.
