With the initiative and support of the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy, Professor Liana Targamadze, Chairwoman of the GTU Women’s Association, Professor Nazi Kutsiava, and representatives of the student self-government held a charity event at Tbilisi Public School No. 202 (Boarding School for the Blind and Visually Impaired).
According to the Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy, Georgian Technical University holds charity events on every holiday and regularly takes care of vulnerable groups of society - beneficiaries of nursing homes and socially vulnerable families.
“The holiday of light, hope, and renewal - the glorious Easter - is approaching. The Georgian Technical University, with the support of the rector, academician David Gurgenidze, has launched a cycle of charity events. We held the first event at the boarding school for the blind and partially sighted, where we presented Easter gifts to beneficiaries with special needs and disabilities. Charity is not just material assistance. First of all, it is an expression of spiritual connection and unity, which is especially important during such a great holiday as Easter, which for believers is a symbol of the victory of light over darkness. For our part, we try to bring light into the lives of others - to share kindness and warmth with those who need it most. Today, we were allowed to bring joy to blind children who make us feel how great the power of spirituality is and how beautiful the world is when seen through their hearts,” said Liana Targamadze.
According to the Chairwoman of the GTU Women’s Association, the Georgian Technical University began the 2025 cycle of charity events with pre-New Year and Christmas events, within the framework of which the beneficiaries of the Gori Elderly Home “Your Warm Hearth”, the Tbilisi Boarding House “Imedi” and the Gabriel Beri Home for the Elderly and Disabled, as well as the socially vulnerable large family of Tsezar and Avtandil Zhamureli in Tserovani, were given various types of products, first aid, and personal hygiene items. The cycle of events was renewed for Easter and will last until the end of the month.
“The Georgian Technical University is not measured only by academic degrees, successes of scientists and students. We feel a responsibility to society and are proud that we have been taking care of people with special needs for years. We are trying to create an environment where they will feel support, warmth, and special care. Today’s event is not just a one-time act. It is a message that each beneficiary deserves the support and love of society and that they are not alone. I would like to express special gratitude to everyone who participated in the organization of today’s day - the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, the Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy, the Faculty Manager, Rati Gurgenidze, students, teachers, volunteers and every person who supported this cause with selfless donations, work, and love. This kindness is an expression of the true essence of Easter,” said Nazi Kutsiava.
