“The symposium offered universities invaluable information and practical advice on aligning their educational programs with international quality standards. The participation of the Georgian Technical University delegation in such a large-scale and important event emphasizes our university’s goal to ensure and achieve the highest academic standards and further strengthen its position in the global educational space. Currently, the Georgian Technical University is preparing five academic programs for ABET accreditation. It is noteworthy that two years ago, one program, the English-language Biomedical Engineering, obtained ABET accreditation, which is a clear example of the university’s focus on continuous quality improvement. ABET accreditation is a highly professional and authoritative assessment that confirms that an academic program meets the highest educational standards in engineering and technology. For the Georgian Technical University, this means increased international recognition, improved educational programs, and greater employment opportunities for graduates. For students, it means an internationally competitive education, thorough preparation for professional success, and access to global career opportunities. The visit of the Georgian Technical University delegation and participation in the ABET Symposium is a significant step for the university on the path to deepening international partnerships and improving educational quality. Such events play an important role in the exchange of knowledge and experience, the introduction of best practices, and the strengthening of the Georgian higher education system,” said Tamar Lominadze.

According to GTU Vice-Rector, Professor Tamar Tsereteli, the Georgian Technical University delegation, within the symposium framework participated in working meetings, where the stages of preparing educational programs for ABET accreditation were discussed. According to her, the university delegation met with ABET President, Dr. Sarah Rajal, and Jane Emmett, Chief Director of the ABET Accreditation Department.

“We are going through an important stage of education - five programs are prepared for ABET accreditation, which is not an easy task. It requires a comprehensive and detailed analysis of all components of academic processes, be it curriculum, learning outcomes, faculty qualifications, student achievements or engagement, and continuous improvement mechanisms. With these important details, ABET has become an international standard recognized worldwide in engineering and technology. The university has carried out purposeful and teamwork work to ensure that our programs meet ABET’s high standards to the fullest extent possible. The Rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, our professors, administration, program coordinators, and quality assurance staff have worked tirelessly. They have analyzed, updated, and improved every element of our educational activities. We are strengthening results-oriented teaching, assessment, and analysis systems. As a result, students, within the framework of the meager fees set for the educational process today, receive a high standard of education, to be prepared not only for today’s labor market but also for the future. ABET accreditation confirms that our educational programs meet internationally recognized standards in engineering and technology. This means that our graduates are ready to take a competitive position in the international labor market. In addition, it significantly increases the prestige of our university nationally and internationally. Most importantly, ABET accreditation gives students a sense of greater support and credibility from the university, that they receive the education they need for the future, as well as support from the industry, that our graduates are ready to contribute to progress,” said Tamar Tsereteli.
