Highly-Ranked Biomedical Engineering Program Students to Receive “MediClubGeorgia” Scholarship
Two outstanding students of the Biomedical Engineering program of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of the Georgian Technical University will become Medical Center “MediClubGeorgia” scholarship holders.

The initiative was announced at a meeting between students and employers at the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, which was attended by Dimitri Makhatadze, General Director of the Multidisciplinary Medical Center “MediClubGeorgia”, and Andro Atoshvili, Co-Founder of the “Charitable Foundation for the Development of Biomedical Engineering in Georgia”.

The meeting was hosted by the Head of the GTU Biomedical Engineering English Language Program, Director of the University Center for International Accreditation, Professor Irine Gotsiridze, and Assistant Professor of the Department Marina Meskhia.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for expanding the partnership as one of the best ways to support students’ career development and future employment.

According to Dimitri Makhatadze, the scholarship establishment of “MediClubGeorgia” for highly rated students of the Georgian Technical University Biomedical Engineering program aims to support talented and motivated young people on their path to becoming professionals.

As he noted, the medical center provides multidisciplinary, international-standard, and safe medical services. The center is equipped with the latest technologies, which are produced by leading companies such as Siemens, Dräger, Fresenius, Philips, Schiller, Storz, and others.

Dimitri Makhatadze spoke about the role of biomedical engineers in modern healthcare, internship, and employment opportunities for students and graduates at “MediClubGeorgia”, and also provided young people with information about the importance of clinical engineering services in providing high-quality medical services.

The initiative of the General Director of “MediClubGeorgia” welcomed Professor Irine Gotsiridze, Head of the GTU English-Language Biomedical Engineering Program.

“The launch of the new scholarship program will further contribute to the deepening and expansion of cooperation between the Georgian Technical University and one of the leading organizations operating in the medical industry. It is noteworthy that the English-language program in biomedical engineering has international ABET accreditation. Also, the Georgian-language program of the same name is preparing to obtain international accreditation, which is strong support for ensuring the sustainable competitiveness of students and graduates. The establishment of scholarships creates a strong motivation for talented students to work harder, achieve success in their studies, and create a growing career in biomedical engineering,” noted Irine Gotsiridze.

At the end of the meeting, as a sign of partnership, the General Director of “MediClubGeorgia” presented a painting to the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the GTU Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems. The work of art will be placed in the department interior, which has been completely renovated and equipped with the support of the “Biomedical Engineering Development Charitable Foundation”.

The initiative to launch a scholarship program for the best students of the biomedical engineering educational program, the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze called important and gave a multifaceted assessment.

“The partnership between the university and the business sector strengthens the connection between education, science, and industry, and also provides students with support in many areas. What is so important, is the appreciation of their work. We are firmly convinced that such new initiatives will contribute to the development of biomedical engineering in Georgia.

Obtaining a scholarship encourages students to learn more, innovate more, and carry out scientific research. We believe it is important to create an ecosystem in partnership with industries where the younger generation of engineers will feel valued and work more on innovative solutions.

We want to thank “MediClubGeorgia” for the initiative to launch the scholarship program, as well as the “Charitable Foundation for the Development of Biomedical Engineering in Georgia” for the renovation and improvement of the university space of the Department of Biomedical Engineering. These specific supporters and involvement in university processes emphasize that biomedical engineering is becoming increasingly relevant and is perceived as one of the main driving forces of medical progress. We hope that similar initiatives will encourage other industries to support education and science, and invest in the development of talented students,” notes David Gurgenidze.

Shortly, the initiative to launch a scholarship program for students of the Biomedical Engineering educational program will be strengthened with a memorandum of understanding, which will be signed by the Rector of the Georgian Technical University and the General Director of the Medical Center “MediClubGeorgia”.
