The Georgian Technical University Public Theater-Studio “Modinakhe” has held a performance at the Samtredia Erosi Manjgaladze Drama Theater and the Senakshi Akaki Khorava State Drama Theater as part of its tour.
The “Modinakhe” troupe presented the audience with a performance based on Mikho Mosulishvili’s play “The Last Seagull”, which takes place on September 27th, 1993, the day of the fall of Sukhumi, and tells the story of the heroic sacrifice of the Chairman of the Council of Ministers and the Defense Council of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, Zhiuli Shartava, and his comrades.
According to the director of the play, Giorgi Chanturia, the play “The Last Seagull”, in which students from various faculties of the Georgian Technical University participate, was completely sold out.
“The Last Seagull” is my debut performance and, accordingly, it is my first time to appear before the audience on tour as an independent director. Samtredia and Senaki have received the “Modinakhe” troupe with great love and ovation several times, which is truly a great motivation for the students of our university. I want to take this opportunity to thank the rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, for his support and the mayors of Samtredia and Senaki municipalities, student-youth, and cultural centers for their warm welcome. My deepest gratitude to the audience, whose warmth of love will be remembered for a long time by the actors who love our troupe. It is noteworthy that “Modinakhe” continues its tour,” says Giorgi Chanturia.
Davit Okitashvili, advisor to the rector of the Georgian Technical University - academician David Gurgenidze, was in Senaki with the “Modinakhe” troupe. After the performance, they decorated the memorials of Zhiuli Shartava and Guram Gabeskiria with flowers.
In the play “The Last Seagull” staged by the Georgian Technical University Public Theater-Studio “Modinakhe” based on the play by playwright Mikho Mosulishvili, the main roles are played by GTU students and graduates: Lasha Sharashenidze (Zhiuli Shartava), Mindia Kitiashvili (Chindikov), Nata Meshveliani, Anano Gogia (Irmela Shutze), Zuka Beruashvili (Guram Gabeskiria), Shota Kacharava (Raul Eshba), Giorgi Oniani (Jumber Betashvili), Nikoloz Mghebrishvili (Guram Janiashvili), Luka Akobia (Valmer Butba), Giorgi Antidze (Joker), Nikoloz Kalmakhelidze (Multiki); Supporting roles: Giorgi Kutalia, Roman Nebieridze, Guga Chargeishvili, Merab Zuzadze, Saba Gagelidze, Saba Jolokhava, Dati Tatulishvili; Direction, scenography and musical design of the performance - Giorgi Chanturia’s, assistant director - Keta Jokhadze, sound design - Jeko Datuashvili, lighting: Gvantsa Nozadze, Giorgi Tatulashvili, Amiran Chargeishvili; Technical team: Davit Cheishvili and Koba Suladze.
The Public Theater-Studio “Modinakhe”, with one of the oldest university traditions, celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2022.
