As part of the events dedicated to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science at the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of the Georgian Technical University, teachers, scientists, and young female researchers held a meeting.
The Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems opened the event. Professor Taliko Zhvania stated that female scientists and researchers at Georgian Technical University play a major role in obtaining, processing, and systematizing objective knowledge about the surrounding world.
“The world celebrates the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11th. Georgian Technical University celebrates this day for the third time. We are pleased that in the age of technology, female scientists from Georgian Technical University play a major role in the development of informatics as a set of scientific fields that study various aspects of the concept of information. We see new faces, which means that the process of involving young women in science is continuous. I wish you success,” said Taliko Zhvania.
Female scientists from the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems Taliko Zhvania, Tamar Berberashvili, Tamar Bzhalava, Mariam Beriashvili, Maguli Bedineishvili, Irine Khomeriki, Ana Kekelidze, Lili Petriashvili, Nona Otkhozoria, Medea Tevdoradze, Ekaterine Sanaia, Natia Kukhilava, and Nani Arabuli shared their scientific achievements and future plans with guests and students.
“It is gratifying that the meeting participants share a common spirit to create more opportunities for young women and girls to realize their skills and ideas in science. Let’s work together to ensure that science is an equal, inclusive, and open space for everyone. We must pave the way for future generations to make science a field where success is not determined by gender, but by knowledge, talent, and hard work,” the Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems noted at the end of the meeting.
For your information, in 2015, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring February 11th as the “International Day of Women and Girls in Science.” On this day, the UN calls on states, organizations, and individuals around the world to promote the equal development of women in science and education.
