GTU Celebrated the Day of the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy
The Day of the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy was celebrated at the Georgian Technical University.

Professor Iasha Kutubidze, the learned secretary of the Academic Council of the Georgian Technical University, opened the event dedicated to Faculty Day. The speaker congratulated the audience on the Occasion and reviewed the Faculty’s history. He also spoke about the successful projects the faculty scientists, and students have implemented.

“The Faculty of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy is the oldest higher education institution in the country. It has been training specialists in chemical and metallurgical technologies for 103 years. I want to emphasize that the faculty has successfully started the 2024/2025 academic year. The faculty met the new academic year with updated infrastructure and teaching and research laboratories equipped with the latest technology by European standards, and according to the National Exams results, is fully staffed. It is gratifying that the teaching and learning process in chemistry in public schools has improved, interest has increased, and the results are visible. I think that Georgian Technical University has also contributed to this result, as GTU has been offering free online courses in STEM subjects to applicants for several years. The courses aim to prepare entrants according to two modules “Mathematics + Physics” or “Mathematics + Chemistry”. This is an unprecedented Project, and the leading subject in both modules is mathematics, although GTU allows entrants to study another STEM subject, physics or chemistry. This year we are celebrating Faculty Day for the third time, a good tradition founded by the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze. I congratulate the faculty, the dean, each scientist and researcher, and students on Faculty Day and wish them success,” noted Isha Kutubidze.

Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy, Professor Liana Targamadze thanked the audience and the guests for their support and wished the students success.

“At various times, Giorgi Nikoladze, Rusudan Nikoladze, Dimitri Eristavi, Nikoloz Landia, Vasil Kakabadze, Rafiel Agladze, Kalistrate Kutateladze, Givi Tsintsadze and other distinguished scientists in the field worked at the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy, whose legacy is invaluable. The late Dean of the Faculty, Professor Nugzar Tsereteli, made a great contribution to the development of the Faculty. I want to emphasize that each laboratory works successfully. With the support of the Rector, the infrastructure is being renovated at the Faculty. Also, the theater studio “Modinakhe” will be rehabilitated. Several events are planned necessary for the popularization and development of the field. Many thanks to Academician David Gurgenidze and the university administration for their support and cooperation,” said Professor Liana Targamadze.

For information, the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy of GTU offers 8 bachelor’s, 6 master’s, and 4 doctoral programs. Considering the demands of the international market, the Faculty will soon conduct admissions to the English-language programs of “Metallurgy” and “Pharmacy”.

The Faculty employs 116 academic staff, including 43 professors, 51 associate professors, 20 assistant professors, and 2 assistants. The scientific topics of the academic staff working at the faculty are based on fundamental scientific research and real problems facing applied science.
