The second Olympiad of students and pupils “Natural Disaster Risk Reduction” was held at Georgian Technical University, organized by the Faculty of Sustainable Mountain Development.
32 pupils from public schools and 23 students from the Georgian Technical University participated in the Olympiad, which was held online during December 4-11.
According to Professor Noe Khozrevanidze, Head of the Faculty of Sustainable Mountain Development, the students participating in the Olympiad were assigned to present to the commission answers to a 20-question test and a 10-point essay prepared according to information brochures created within the framework of the initiative of the Government of Georgia and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) – “Reducing the Risks of Disasters Caused by Climate Change in Georgia”, and a 50-point test assignment was developed for students.
“Reducing the risk of natural disasters is an important element for disaster management and sustainable development. Today, in the world, unlike in earlier years, special attention is paid to disaster preparedness. Scientists do not dispute that disaster risks can be reduced and these are the main nuances that were the main motive for holding the Olympics. I wish the winners success,” said Noe Khozrevanidze.
The prizes of the second Olympiad of students and pupils “Reducing the Risks of Natural Disasters” were distributed as follows:
among pupils:
- 1st place - Murman Napetvaridze, a student of the Rokhi Public School of the village of Bagdati Municipality - with 28 points;
- 2nd place - Tako Gabroshvili, a student of Tsalka Public School No. 2 - with 27 points;
- 3rd place - Tatyana Beridu and Lana Kakhadze, students of Tsalka Public School No. 2 - with 23 points;
Among students:
- 1st place - Mariam Bakradze, a student of the Faculty of Sustainable Mountain Development - with 40 points;
- 2nd place - Vakhtang Nazghaidze, a student of the Faculty of Sustainable Mountain Development - with 39 points;
- 3rd place - Giorgi Gambashidze - a student of the Faculty of Mining and Geology, and students of the Faculty of Sustainable Mountain Development - Ana Dolidze and Bacha Tabagari - with 38 points.
At the closing event, the head of the Faculty of Sustainable Mountain Development awarded certificates to the participants of the Olympiad, and diplomas to the winners.
