A scientific-practical training has been opened for students of the Viticulture and Enology Educational Program of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Biosystems Engineering at the Georgian Technical University.

The scientific-practical training “Vine Pruning and Formation” is being conducted by Julio Prieto Diaz, an international consultant in the field of viticulture at the FAO, within the framework of the EU-funded project ENPARD IV, organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

According to Academician Edisher Kvesitadze, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Biosystems Engineering of the Georgian Technical University, the faculty is equipped with modern standards of educational and scientific laboratories and auditoriums according to international requirements, where both Georgian-language and English-language educational programs are implemented.

The state fully funds eight bachelor’s degree programs. The faculty implements a dual-degree bachelor’s degree program with the participation of the Georgian Technical University and the French University René-1 (Universite de RENNES 1).

As Edisher Kvesitadze states, students of the dual-degree master’s program in viticulture and enology at the Faculty of Agrarian Sciences and Biosystems Engineering of the Georgian Technical University have a unique opportunity to receive a diploma from two universities - Georgian and French.

According to the signed memorandum, the GTU Faculty of Agrarian Sciences and Biosystems is a member of the European consortium, which includes France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, and other wine-growing countries.

After one year of study at GTU, master’s degree students will transfer to any university member of the consortium for one year, which will allow them to receive a European education in viticulture and winemaking.

“FAO’s International Consultant in the Field of Viticulture, Julio Prieto Diaz, is a viticultural engineer with many years of experience. In parallel, he has been collaborating with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations for several years on training and various projects, sharing with students and interested viticulturists the latest developments in enology, modern approaches to vineyard management, and new engineering and technological solutions,” says Edisher Kvesitadze.

A scientific-practical seminar on “Vine Pruning and Formation” for students will be held in Saguramo.
