In the framework of events dedicated to the 187th birthday of Ilia Chavchavadze, an educational tour was held at the Georgian Technical University.
The Faculty of Engineering Economics, Media Technologies, and Social Sciences at the Georgian Technical University held the first event in the framework of the week dedicated to Saint Ilia the Righteous.
According to academician David Gurgenidze, the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, the university was one of the first to respond to the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth’s initiative to hold events within the framework of the week dedicated to the work of Ilia Chavchavadze, writer and publicist.
“At the Georgian Technical University, a cycle of events started on November 8th and will last until November 14th, which will better introduce Ilia Chavchavadze’s works to the students and the future generation of Georgia. We deliberately started the cycle of events from the Literary-Memorial Museum. This is the place, where the greatest political and public figure, writer, poet, and publicist spent the last years of his life. The famous “Thursdays” were held here, and Ilya’s thoughts were born and written here, which today is our national treasure. Here was the editorial office and printing house of “Iveria” newspaper. “Political and Literary” “Iveria” played a great role in instilling national self-consciousness and establishing the idea of Europeanism. Ilia Chavchavadze was always vigilant as a guardian of Georgian morals and ideology. He listened to the “Beating of his country’s heart,” and longed to hear “The sound of European people’s celebrating the shackles breaking” voice in Georgia.
Today, 184 years after the birth of a great public figure, the Georgian nation, the homeland of Saint Ilia the Righteous, is independent and free. Today, more than ever, we can boldly say that the present was born from Ilya’s past and gave birth to the future, which leads to Europe with peace, dignity, and prosperity. It is the duty of us, the teachers, to pass on the excellence of Ilia’s teachings to future generations so that they can study and work tirelessly for the estate, language, and faith - this is “Movement and only movement” which is a guarantee of a better future,” said David Gurgenidze.
According to Professor Ivane Jagodnishvili, dean of the Faculty of Engineering Economics, Media Technologies and Social Sciences, within the framework of the Ilia Chavchavadze’s week, after the educational tour in the Literary-Memorial Museum, the faculty plans to hold a scientific conference and public lectures.
