Researchers of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of the Georgian Technical University presented the Georgian translation of the book “Python for Computer and Data Science” by famous American researchers Paul and Harvey Deitel to students and academic circles.
A group of professors and researchers from the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of GTU worked on the project of translating a 900-page scientific publication into Georgian, which was prepared within the framework of the grant project of the Embassy of the United States of America in Georgia – “Translation Program of Books by American Authors”: Deputy Dean Lili Petriashvili - project leader, Deputy Dean Nona Otkhozoria, Head of the Artificial Intelligence Department Mariam Chkhaidze and invited teacher Natia Kukhilava. The book translation into Georgian belongs to Nana Kuchuloria, and the editor is Neli Kafianidze.
The presentation of the new book – “Python for Computer and Data Science” at the Georgian Technical University was attended by GTU Vice-Rector Tamar Lominadze, Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems Taliko Zhvania, professors and students, as well as Anna Kharibegashvili, the grant manager of the United States Embassy in Georgia, president of the Association for the Protection of Farmers’ Rights (AFRD) Kakha Nadiradze, state representatives and private universities operating in Georgia.
Vice-Rector Tamar Lominadze thanked the American Embassy in Georgia and program managers for the opportunity obtained within the framework of the “Program of Translation of Books by American Authors”, and the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze and Chancellor, Professor Karlo Kopaliani, for their support and cooperation.
Tamar Lominadze drew attention to the efforts and hard work of the group of researchers of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems to publish advanced, at the same time, invaluable and new scientific literature in the Georgian language for students or anyone interested in studying programming.
“Georgia Technical University has been given a unique opportunity to offer students and anyone interested in programming in their native language important specialized literature, authored by famous American scientists, Paul and Harvey Deitel.
Python is one of the most actively used languages with the highest popularity index according to PYPL The book draws together unique approaches to learning Python, the most relevant topics and applications, and hundreds of examples, exercises, and projects (EEPs) that provide students with interesting, fun, yet challenging insights into Python programming, computer science, and data science.
Most importantly, the modular architecture of this book, this set of real-world data, and access to artificial intelligence technologies will allow our young people not only to deepen their knowledge in the direction of programming, but also to work on such important projects that have a significant impact on our existence, business, and industry,” said Tamar Lominadze.
According to the Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, Professor Taliko Zhvania, the book is complex and covers topics such as big data, artificial intelligence, and cloud technologies.
According to him, the new edition will introduce students to the most famous and frequently used libraries in data science, the main ideas of computer hardware and software, data hierarchies, and different types of programming languages, and will create an opportunity, along with the theoretical knowledge of Python programming, to acquire the practical skills of writing software instructions, experience and be able to self-examine.
Students of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems expressed special interest in the book published in Georgian – “Python for Computer and Data Science”.
As the youth noted, Python is one of the most popular languages in the industry for learning programming, along with JavaScript, which is increasingly in demand. According to them, most startups use Python-based backend frameworks such as Django and Flask.
Representatives of various universities and researchers in the field gave a high evaluation of the new edition and generally spoke about the need to translate the latest scientific literature into Georgian.
