The Faculty of Power Engineering Day Was Celebrated at GTU
“The Faculty of Power Engineering is successfully continuing its historical mission to train engineering and scientific personnel according to international educational standards”, said the vice-rector of the Georgian Technical University, Professor Tamar Tsereteli, at the event dedicated to the Day of the Faculty of Power Engineering.

The 102nd anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Power Engineering at the Georgian Technical University was celebrated.

The vice-rector opened the events. Professor Tamar Tsereteli thanked the rector, academician David Gurgenidze, for the initiative of establishing the faculty day and noted that energy is the guarantee of the country’s progress.

“We are celebrating the faculty day for the second time. During this one year, the professors and teachers of the Faculty of Power Engineering published 75 scientific articles and 3 monographs in prestigious publications and participated in 7 international projects, 24 international conferences and 2 international forums, out of the 4 winning projects, 2 of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia and 2 received international grants. They published 7 reference books, were involved in 2 scientific research projects funded by the program, and conducted 88 examinations.

An important fact indicates the success of the Faculty of Power Engineering - in 2025, the bachelor’s program – “Electrical and Electronic Engineering” will be submitted for ABET accreditation by the American Engineering and Technology Accreditation Council.

This means that the program will provide international standard education to the future energy workers of Georgia. The Faculty of Power Engineering started the 2024-2025 academic year with two modified bachelor’s programs - Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Engineering Management, as well as two updated teaching and research laboratories equipped with the latest equipment - hydropower laboratory and electrotechnical materials laboratory.

According to the results of the Unified National Exams, the educational programs of all three levels are filled. A three-year project is starting at the Faculty of Power Engineering, which aims at forming an international network of laboratories in the direction of renewable energies and energy efficiency, implementing large research projects, developing educational materials and courses, raising awareness, training trainers, and study visits to partner universities. These and other achievements are the result of hard work, for which I would like to thank the academic staff and faculty students. I congratulate you on the Day of the Faculty of Power Engineering", said the vice-rector in her speech.

The dean of the Faculty of Power Engineering thanked the guests for their participation in the event and congratulated the academic staff and students on Faculty Day. Professor Lena Shatakishvili thanked the Rector of the Georgian Technical University for his support and introduced the annual report to the public.

“We started the 2024/2025 academic year with a lot of news. First of all, I would like to mention that with the support of the rector, academician David Gurgenidze, we acquired a modern standard “Electrical materials” laboratory, which since the new academic year has been fully involved in the implementation of the bachelor’s and master’s programs of the Faculty of Power Engineering – “Energy and Electrical Engineering” and “Electrical and Electronic Engineering”. With the support of the Rector, the “Electrotechnological Equipment Management” and “Hydroenergy Laboratory” were rehabilitated.

As the vice-rector noted, in the 2024/2025 academic year, the educational programs of all three levels of education are filled, which indicates that the interest in energy specialties is growing among the youth. In addition, four short-term professional training programs were prepared by the faculty by order of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. The fourth stream of the mentioned professional programs successfully completes the course.

The faculty is actively involved in the internationalization of the educational process and educational programs. I wish our students and academic staff success. I congratulate you on Faculty Day”, noted Lena Shatakishvili.

At the end of the event, the guests visited the thermal energy, hydropower, FusionSolar technologies, and electrical engineering laboratories operating at the Power Engineering Faculty.

It should be noted that in the creation of the educational and scientific laboratory base at the faculty, the Georgian Technical University received support from companies “Telasi”, Schneider Electric, the Austrian company HERZ Armaturen, the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the International Energy Corporation of Georgia, and the Energy Development Fund of Georgia.
