The seventh international conference – “Nanotechnologies” (GTU - Nano 2024) is taking place at the Georgian Technical University. The international conference is five days long and is attended by scientific delegations from 17 countries of the world - Georgia, the United States of America, Japan, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, Canada, Mexico, Russia, Armenia, Ukraine, Hungary and Kazakhstan.
The conference was opened by the Chancellor of the Georgian Technical University, Professor Carlo Kopaliani. As he mentioned, the nanotechnology conference is held in Georgia every two years, and a regular series is devoted to the most pressing problems of this important field of modern science and technology.
According to Karlo Kopaliani, at “GTU-Nano 2024” scientists, researchers, engineers, and technologists will discuss the methods of synthesis of new nanomaterials, studies of their structure, physical, chemical, and technological properties, as well as the possibilities of their use in technology.
“It is gratifying that our university hosts such an important international conference. Internationalization in the scientific direction is important for the Georgian Technical University. In total, the National Organizing Committee of the Conference received 120 abstracts of presentations.
Among the authors are well-known researchers in this field, as well as promising young specialists and doctoral students. They represent leading universities, institutes, and research centers from 17 countries. It is a great honor for us that more than 40 leading scientists are attending the conference.
We are sure that this international scientific forum will grow into a good platform for nano nominations and nanotechnologies to hold a wide interdisciplinary discussion and not only intensify existing cooperation but also promote future cooperation in nanotechnological research. I welcome the participants and guests of the Seventh International Conference. I wish you success”, said Carlo Kopaliani.
The topics of oral and poster sessions of “GTU-Nano 2024” are diverse. It includes nanotechnology, nanophysics, nanochemistry, nanobiology, and nanomedicine, as well as nanomaterials science, nanoengineering, and nanoelectronics, which deals with nanosafety and nanoeducation, etc. About 140 reports were presented by researchers from leading universities, research institutes, and scientific centers in 17 countries.
As the dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of the Georgian Technical University stated, in 1959, the American physicist Richard Feynman in his report – “There is Enough Space Down There” - for the first time put forward the opinion that it is possible to move atoms mechanically, using manipulators. According to Professor Taliko Zhvania, it is believed to be the first step in nanotechnology development. The term “Nanotechnology” was used for the first time in 1974 by Tokyo University professor Norio Taniguchi, thus defining the creation of objects with a size of several nanometers.
“Nanotechnology studies structures whose size does not exceed 100 nanometers and involves the materials and devices development within this size range. Nanotechnology is extremely diverse and includes both the means of reassembling existing devices and the creation of completely new materials at the nanoscale level.
Today, nanotechnology is an interdisciplinary field of fundamental and applied science and technology that studies methods and techniques for manipulating objects at the atomic and molecular levels. Nanotechnology has the potential to create many new devices that can be used in various fields.
The conference will contribute to the involvement of Georgian scientists in international scientific projects. Hosting this international conference is very important for the internationalization of the Georgian Technical University.
I would like to thank the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, and the Chancellor, Professor Karlo Kopaliani for their support. Special thanks to the Shota Rustaveli Scientific Foundation of Georgia, the conference is being held under the auspices of the foundation grant”, announced the dean.
Georgian and foreign scientists and students will present the results of ongoing scientific research at the conference and participate in scientific discussions.
