The Faculty of Energy Started the New Academic Year With Modified Undergraduate Programs and Updated Teaching and Research Laboratories
In the 2024-2025 academic year, the Faculty of Energy of the Georgian Technical University is launching two modified bachelor’s programs - Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Engineering Management, as well as two updated teaching and research laboratories equipped with the latest equipment - hydropower and electrotechnical materials laboratory.

In the 2024-2025 academic year, all three educational programs of the Faculty of Energy are filled. In particular, 210 applicants were enrolled in the 210 vacant positions announced in Energy and Electrical Engineering, 50 out of 50 in Engineering Management, and 50 out of 50 in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

In total, 310 undergraduate students will start studying at the Faculty of Energy in the 2024-2025 academic year; Master’s degree - 65 students (55 - Energy and Electrical Engineering, 10 - Technological Project Management and Industrial Policy); Doctorate — 7 students (6 - Energy and Electrical Engineering, 1 - Innovation and Operations Management).

According to the dean of the Faculty of Energy, Professor Lena Shatakishvili, on the first day of the new academic year, September 16th, informational meetings will be held with freshmen according to the programs, where the administration of the faculty, heads of academic departments, representatives of student self-government will introduce students to the specifics of the educational process, the history of the faculty, and the list of annual sports and cultural events, etc.

“The Faculty of Energy is 95 years old. It is the only one where future energy workers receive a complete and highly qualified education.

Today, the success of the Faculty of Energy is indicated by an important fact - in 2025, the bachelor’s program – “Electrical and Electronic Engineering” will be submitted for ABET accreditation of the American Engineering and Technology Accreditation Council.

It means that the program will provide education on international standards to future energy workers in Georgia. This is a clear indication that the faculty is ready to move to a higher level of teaching, which is a credit to the university and our partners. The faculty graduates, specialists, and professors are actively involved in several international and local projects.

Our professors undergo internships in the United States of America. A rehabilitation project of the eighth educational building is planned.

The Energy Development Fund will renovate the lobby, auditoriums, corridors, and educational infrastructure of the Faculty of Energy.

These and other achievements are the result of hard work. I would like to thank the rector of the Georgian Technical University, academician Davit Gurgenidze, for the initiative and support of many projects. I would like to thank the Faculty academic staff, and students”, said Lena Shatakishvili.

A three-year project is starting at the Faculty of Energy, which aims to form an international network of laboratories in the direction of renewable energy and energy efficiency, implement large research projects, develop training materials and courses, raise awareness, train trainers, and study visits to partner universities.

Partner organizations of the project are the University of Business and Technology, Yakob Gogebashvili Telavi State University, Energy Efficiency Center Georgia, Milan Polytechnic University (Italy), La Coruña University (Spain), Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology (Ukraine), Donetsk National Technical University (Ukraine), ADA University (Azerbaijan), and Khazarian University (Azerbaijan).

During the study visit of 3E-Partnership, the dean of the faculty Lena Shatakishvili, and the head of the Thermal Energy, Energy Efficient Technologies, and Energy Audit Department of the same faculty - Natia Arabadze, were on a business trip to the study visit of 3E-Partneship to the Faculty of Engineering Technology of KU Leuven in the city of Ghent, Belgium, where they got to know the methodology related to educational training programs aimed at deepening the knowledge of renewable energies and energy efficiency.

The project is financed by the European Union, within the Erasmus+CBHE program.
