The vice Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Associate Professor Tamar Tsereteli, Deputy Rector for Science, Professor Tamar Lominadze, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Professor Lavrenti Gudavadze, Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Management Systems, Professor Taliko Zhvania, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy, Associate Professor Liana Targamadze, and Dean of the Faculty of Transport Systems and Mechanical Engineering, Associate Professor Boris Gitolandia, met with the delegation of Bar-Ilan University (State of Israel).

At the introductory meeting, Bar-Ilan University (BIU) was represented by the Deputy President of the University, Professor Moshe Lewenstein; CEO Zohar Yinon; Bar-Ilan University International School Executive Director Ofer Dahan; The academic head of the same school, Professor Rivka Tuval Mashiah, as well as the representative of the Department of International Relations, Yael Toledano, and the Professor of the Faculty of Life Sciences, Eitan Okun. The parties discussed the possibilities of future collaboration between the two universities.

As the Deputy Rector of the Georgian Technical University in the field of science, Professor Tamar Lominadze noted in her speech that one of the solid foundations of the relationship between Georgia and Israel will be the cooperation between the educational and scientific spaces of the two countries. The universities have a prominent role in this process.

“The friendship between the Georgian and Jewish people began many centuries ago I the land of Georgia, and it is getting stronger and stronger. We understand well that one of the solid foundations of the relationship is close cooperation between the educational and scientific spaces of the two countries, and today, our working meeting is proof of that.

The Georgian Technical University was founded in 1922 and is one of the first engineering-technological higher schools in Transcaucasia, where humanities are also taught. The Georgian Technical University in the academic direction, has been closely cooperating with San Diego State University for many years, and we also collaborate with Arizona University. 

In addition, within the framework of the memorandum of understanding, scientific collaboration connects us with one of the largest American scientific centers in the world - Fermilab, and in the DUNE experiment, the scientists from our university participate. We have a great desire to have opportunities for multifaceted cooperation with Bar-Ilan University, to expand and deepen both academic and scientific collaborations, and to conduct them in such a diverse and global context, as we have with the leading universities of Europe, America, and Asia, and the hugest scientific and research centers”, - said Tamar Lominadze.

The representatives of Bar-Ilan University (BIU) thanked their Georgian colleagues and focused on deepening scientific cooperation. As mentioned at the meeting, the parties are ready to use university laboratories as a research base within the framework of Georgia-Israel scientific cooperation. 

For information: Bar-Ilan University is one of the first research universities established in 1955 and with great achievements in science has left an indelible mark on the country’s development. The university started its operation with 70 students, and according to today’s data, 17,000 students study there.

Four of the university’s ten faculties focus on natural sciences. These include Engineering, Medicine, Exact Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Biophysics and Mathematics) and Life Sciences.
