At the Georgian Technical University, the book “Cyber Security Challenges, Concepts and Practices” published by the researchers of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems was presented to the academic and scientific circles.
At the presentation of the book published by professors Nani Arabuli, Akaki Shekeladze, Vladimir Adamia, and Zaza Tsyramua, the dean of the faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, professor Taliko Zhvania, the manager of the faculty, professor Zurab Gasitashvili, the heads of academic departments - professors Soso Kartvelishvili, Mariam Chkhaidze, Levan Imnaishvili, Ketevan Kotrikadze, professor - teachers and students were present.
As one of the authors, Professor Nani Arabuli noted, the book was published with the financial support of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia. As she said, the goal of the authors is to overcome one of the main challenges in the global information space - cyber security risks.
“One of the main challenges in the global space is information security. The public and private sectors in the advanced countries of the world realized a long time ago that cyber security risks could be avoided or dealt with by raising cyber awareness among the younger generation, and this effect cannot be achieved without the involvement of scientific circles.
There is still a lot to be done in our country. Unfortunately, there is still no platform where researchers interested in security topics can share their achievements with interested parties and discuss significant competencies with specialists. We think that the work prepared by our group is an important step towards eliminating this deficiency,” noted Nani Arabuli.
According to the Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of GTU, Professor Taliko Zhvania, the publication discusses the basics of information security, modern challenges of cyberspace, methods, and tools for dealing with them thus, an interested reader will get to know the legal, theoretical and practical components of cyber security and create a solid foundation for working in the field.
“The topics related to cyber security discussed in the work and rich practical material will give specialists, especially newcomers, more experience and enrich them with new, unique skills. It is worth noting that this scientific work can be used in universities as the main and auxiliary literature of educational courses of bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate programs. We thank the authors for enriching the fields of information and cyber security with the necessary literature”, noted Taliko Zhvania.
The book covers more than 300 pages and consists of the following chapters Cyber Security - the World of Experts and Criminals; “Cube” of Cyber Security; Cyber Security Threats, Vulnerabilities and Attacks; The Art of Secrecy - Technologies, Products, and Procedures to Protect Privacy; Ensuring integrity - using technologies, products, and procedures to ensure integrity; the concept of five 9s; the use of technologies, processes, and procedures to protect the network component; Organizational-legal aspects of cyber security. At the end of the work practical tasks are given as an appendix.
