The day of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems was celebrated at GTU
The Day of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems was established in 2023 on the initiative of the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, and has been celebrated by all the university faculties.

This year, the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems Day is celebrated for the second time.

The event was attended by the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, Academician David Gurgenidze, Chairman of the Supervisory Board (President), Professor Lavrenti Gudavadze, Vice-Rector Professor Tamar Tsereteli, Deputy Rector for Science, Professor Tamar Lominadze, and the university community, graduates, students, and guests. The Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, Professor Taliko Zhvania, opened the event. She reviewed the history of the faculty and spoke about the successful projects implemented by the scientific staff and students of the faculty. The Dean thanked the guests and the Rector of GTU for establishing “Faculty Day”, and for the support David Gurgenidze shows to each faculty, scientist, and student.

“This year, we celebrate the “Faculty Day” for the second time. This is an excellent initiative of the Rector of the Georgian Technical University, which allows us to provide our colleagues, guests, and students with detailed information about our successful projects. The goal of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems is to prepare specialists who are competitive in the international labor market with the competence corresponding to modern requirements. Our scientific-academic staff actively cooperates with the largest international research organizations and centers, such as CERN in Switzerland, KEK and J-Parc in Japan, FERMILAB in the USA, we cooperate with the Jülich Center and the DAAD organization, and our students are winners of many projects. During one year, scientists of the faculty won four international grants. I would like to thank the Rector, Academician David Gurgenidze, and the former dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, the deputy rector in the field of science, Professor Tamar Lominadze, for their support. Thanks to the guests for their appreciation and the students, whose every successful step serves to raise the awareness of the country and the university house”, said the Dean.

According to the GTU information, within the framework of the event dedicated to the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems Day, an exhibition viewing of the scientific-technical and creative achievements of students and professors was held. Scientific, engineering, technological achievements, and self-creation of students and professors were presented at the exhibition.

As the rector of GTU noted in his welcome speech, Informatics and Control Systems is one of the successful faculties where students have all the opportunities to study the latest advances in technology and conduct experiments and research. As the Academician David Gurgenidze noted, in 1953, at the initiative of Professor Nikoloz Gabashvili, a new chair – “Automation of Manufacturing Processes” was opened at the Georgian Polytechnic Institute and for 71 years, it has been a flagship in the field of information technologies at the Georgian Technical University.

“Today, in the era of modern progress, Informatics and Control Systems occupy a leading place. It is already 71 years since the Georgian Technical University has been a flagship in the field of information technologies, both from the educational and scientific point of view. I am proud of each student and scientist who has introduced Georgia to the world. The “Juli Shartava’s Informatics and Control Systems educational-scientific laboratory” is equipped with the latest equipment, a modern university engineering physics laboratory, and a virtual modeling and construction center operated by the faculty, where practical and laboratory classes are held. We make every effort for the further development of the faculty. Wish all of you a Happy Faculty Day, and good luck. And, finally, I would like to mention, today, at the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems works Mr. Aliko Tsintsadze, who worked hard to save his colleagues and the teaching-learning process during difficult times and I would like to express my special thanks to him for his patriotism and to ask the faculty to present Mr. Aliko’s candidacy for the gold medal of the university to the academic council,” David Gurgenidze noted in his speech.
